OK, so 1,5 year ago I wrote a thread on the value of bitcoin and how it is not equal to the price. It was the start of the pandemic. Time for an update.

I think in 20 years time people will wonder: how could I have missed the essence of crypto currencies by staring at tulips..
In this thread I outline how bitcoin and its blockchain can be seen as a multifaceted diamond, allowing many perspectives.

My main point is that it may well be a public good.
I'll now expand on that.

When we look at public transport, early industrialisation, setting up phone companies railways and such, countries have witnessed different developments paths.

This emergence of infrastructure with new technologies is happening now with cryptocurrencies.
Early investors in railways could completely lose all their money if the private consortium developing it was unfit for business. But one could also make money by investing early in the right companies/infrastructure builders.
Essentially the investments needed to be recovered by actual demand and cash flow coming in through ticket sales. Visionary investors would try and assess likelihood of making returns for certain projects.
With these age old physical infrastructures for transport, water, telephones variations of private and public provision has occured, with centralisation and sometimes also nationalisation occuring. And with some government rulemaking to coordinate efforts.
New blockchain structures that are developing now are the digital railway structures being setup in shapes and sized and forms. With all uncertainties of early industries. But also with a very tricky starting point for the bitcoin blockchain.
If you misunderstand bitcoin and the bitcoin blockchain as a single sort of payment app and push economic or monetary thinking on the network its components and cost recovery structure, you may lose sight of the infrastructural development.
If we reframe different blockchain architectures that are in existence now as digital railway companies with a flexible network, we can also understand that it's native assets can also be viewed as the train ticket for using the infrastructure in the future.
Now these digital railways of the future are far more flexible than the old school physical railways. In essence those digital railways may bring you anywhere and the people using the train or maintaining the networks may develop their own wagons, sidetracks and what have you.
I recall from anekdotal history books some stories such as: 'And then, grandpa was so smart to invest in the railways in an early stage... and that is how he got lucky as an investor'.

Often told with a tone: but that only comes along once in a lifetime.
Todays @CryptocastNL, this weeks youtube by @GKBoris and @wmiddelkoop and last weeks @SatoshiRadioPod statements by @Bart_Mol redirected my thinking towards cryptocurrencies and metaverse experiences as digital architectures/railways of the future.
@CryptocastNL @GKBoris @wmiddelkoop @SatoshiRadioPod @Bart_Mol As I outlined in my previous thread I don't buy the: 'there is no intrinsic value' in cryptocurrencies paradigm. At the least they may serve as a ticket to ride a certain blockchain and use its processing power.

But they are more than that. Enter VR, AR and Metaverse.
It is inevitable that the new digital AR/VR/etc realities of the future need digital backbones and railways as well as economies and digital mechanics.

And the stage we are now in is technologically slightly different from the physical railway days. As in required expertise.
Technology is cheap enough for any group of people to design and set up, have a shot at creating the digital railway architecture of the future. We can label it with all kind of words, Defi, AR/VR etc, but it's not like the expertise is scarce or upfront investment costs high.
Thus we can see a wide array of technologies and solutions being developed in many areas. With central banks understanding that at least one public digital monetary infrastructure (central bank digital currencies) must be available in these future realities/structures.
And while the easy logic is to assume that cryptocurrencies or central bank digital currencies may become the payment tools in new digital worlds/experiences, this may not be the case. It could be our frame of mind right now.
All we can see is a range of digital architectures being developed, being in a very early stage of development with all flavours of emerging digital infratructures and notions of what constitutes the plumbing, the electricity and the water in those architectures.
Stepping into cryptocurrencies, certain blockchains etc. may also be considered equivalent as retail (share) investment in future digital infrastructures with an unlimited upside potential. Yes, a lot of risk, but possibly high rewards as well.
I think the initial bitcoin narrative, the very strong reaction of governments, the fear for money laundering and criminality with bitcoin and such have lead to too much analytical monetary frames being pushed onto cryptocurrencies.

Could we be missing the point meanwhile?
This gets me back to the insight that I started with. In 20 years time some people may hit themselves on the head why on earth they were in the 2010-2020s mistakenly arguing that crypto had no intrinsic value, that it was a tulip bubble and such instead of investing in its future
And to wrap up. Do see this thread as some scribbly notes and reflections in progress/flux.

Data is iets. Een gegeven. 23.
Succes ermee.

23 wat?

Geen idee.
Maar wel 23?

Jazeker.

Mijn eigen reactie hieronder in beeldformat.

In 1 click rijk !
Lees even mee.
