BJP’s massive defeats in various places in VS 21 wouldnt be possible w/o internal sabotage in collusion with TMC. Tathagata is talking of state level leadership, but many district level leaders had 2 be compromised by TMC leaders in those places. Many legacy leaders trained by RSS.
Tathagata’s complaints of compromise through money and women were all against leaders coming from RSS, Kailash Vijaybargia, Dilip Ghosh, Arvind Menon etc. RSS top brasses have lousy value system. But the phenomenon can’t be limited to top brass alone. It has to dribble down.
Most of the legacy BJP leaders are unknown entities in the respective districts. Not even known in their Parras (neighborhoods). None of them are involved with even neighborhood activities such as public Pujas. Most of these aren’t known either because of their professional success
TMC leaders largely came from Congress. Regardless of electoral success Congress leaders were known in respective districts because of political legacy. Just not true for legacy BJP leaders trained by RSS even in district level. They lived in parallel societies throughout.
When some of the district level leaders of BJP, trained by RSS, say that they have been in BJP for 20-30 years, in some ways, they reveal their incompetence as politicians. Why aren’t those in politics for 20-30 years not even locally known ?
Lack of local name recognition can’t be attributed to media. But need to be attributed to the indifference of these legacy leaders to local issues. RSS trains its cadres to live in parallel society. Clue: even now Dilip Ji isn’t invited 2 inaugurate Pujas anywhere.
The Pujas are linked to patronage structures and therefore granted that TMC leaders, local, statewide have natural advantages. But that can’t be a good explanation 4 BJP leaders’, district, state level ones’, absence from Puja activities.More, its lack of belonging in local society
Suvendu Adhikari has been designated as public enemy number one by TMC supremo. Outside government, he can’t disburse patronage any more, certainly not comparable to even TMC ministers. But he is still in heavy demand for Pujo inaugurations in the 2 Medinipurs and outside.
The difference arises from distinct cultures. Cong, TMC, left leaders had risen in politics through student politics and local politics. That needs close involvement with society at every step. Pujas are the largest mass activities. They have joined these throughout their lives.
RSS cadres rise in BJP through RSS which lives in parallel society. They have never been encouraged to be part of the mainstream Bengali society. So, even a big RSS leader won’t be known in his neighborhood.
In every neighborhood some people are known as “upokari lok”, do gooders, who one can approach to seek help in time of need. Many of these upokari loks are not in politics, they are do gooders because they just like to be so.
But winning politicians will have to emerge from the ranks of the do gooders. How will you win a council election particularly in opposition if your neighborhood can’t think of you as one they can rely on in time of need? Not sure how many RSS men are local do gooders.

The Surajit Saha episode is revealing about 1) politics in Howrah 2) RSS 3) WB media. A thread:
First, some background for those not following the nitty-gritties of WB politics. Surajit Saha is the district president of Howrah BJP. Rathin Chakraborti is the son of Bhola Chakraborti, renowned doctor in Howrah &may be all of WB.Rathin, a doctor himself &former Mayor of Howrah
Rathin Chakraborti has a name recognition of his own in Howrah. He may not be financially clean himself, but no Mayor in WB is. He is not unusually corrupt. He moved to BJP before VS 21 contested VS polls from Howrah & lost.

"শুভেন্দু অধিকারী একটা অকৃতজ্ঞ, বেইমান, জানোয়ার, বেজন্মা” -কুনাল ঘোষ Kunal uses filthy language on Suvendu. Why are they so obsessed with parentage?Their own, others? Had any WB BJP leader used half of these, choti chata media would have run it for a month
Only BJP leader Kunal seems to be deferential to is Dilip Ghosh. Rudro Barta seems to have noticed it too.
Literal translation of Kunal Ghosh’s oratory: Suvendu Adhikari is ungrateful, traitor, animal and a bastard. Clearly Kunal is doing this to please his supremo.

May vote in the Municipality elections this time. If I do, I will vote for BJP. Primarily because of the risk a section has taken by flagging Hindu persecution in BD & more generally because of the Hindu line of that section.Despite my reservations against Modi & RSS.
After a few election cycles a party has given me a good reason to vote.
As far as I am concerned there is no honor in not voting due to intimidation by any one let alone Begum and her Dudhel Gais. A Bengali needs to take her honor seriously.Less than a century back we fought a far stronger force, British imperialists. Now, we would be afraid to vote?

Puja inauguration/involvements are good indication of popularity. Legacy BJP leaders have never understood this. Influenced by patronage structure, but not patronage structure alone. In WB Mamata inaugurates the max number of Pujas today, 2nd is Suvendu, in & out of his district.
He is still a distant second, but he has started off independently less than a year and his party has suffered a humiliating defeat in this period. Besides Mamata’s demand for Puja inauguration, joining is heavily amplified by TMC’s Govt patronage structure, which BJP doesn’t have
If Mamata or even a local TMC leader inaugurates a puja, the Puja committee is in the good books of the local admin, if a BJP leader inaugurates, the club gets black marks. If public enemy number one inaugurates, black marks are multiplied.

We have a lot of work 2 do 2 raise awareness about the plight of Hindus of BD in West Bengal. But I think we have made progress. Five years back one wouldn’t hear about their sufferings even on SM. Today there are protest rallies, albeit small, on ground. Progress, but slow.
The BD lobby holds major institution power in India. Media buries the tales of their sufferings. Indian state whitewashes facts of the genocide regardless of the party in power.Politicians who are brave enough to speak out using their platform (eg, Suvendu) are assuming risks.
But, if a cause is just, we simply can’t abandon it because the path is strewn with roadblocks. Must raise awareness on the issue using whatever reach each of us have, from SM to friends&family. We have to expose the complicity of the Indian state as a whole. Hindus of BD are us

Why very few who can succeed outside politics join it? The feudalism innate 2 Indian politics, holds 4 all parties,Cong,BJP, regional parties, left etc. Example: Modi & Shah would not need to answer as 2 why they abandoned cadres in the wake of religio-political post poll violence
Modi, Shah, Nadda still giving strategic directions, read giving gyan,on directions for various state units. But they would never face basic question on their roles as leaders. RSS is of course one step ahead, is in charge of org of BJP everywhere without ever contesting elections
Goes without saying that the feudalism culture in Cong, TMC, left (through Politburo) is at least comparable to that in BJP,
