“I’ve never once had a conversation with Ms Ortiz-Velez about this issue, and it is clear she has a fundamental misunderstanding of the Voting Rights Act.”
.@RepMyers also speaks out against the maps from Evers' commission, saying she opposes any maps that dilute the voting power of Black and Hispanic residents.
@RepMyers .@RepMyers says she's a "red button, jump-up-and-down no" vote on maps drawn by @GovEvers' commission.
@RepMyers@GovEvers .@RepMyers: "It's not about making anybody look bad or feel bad. It's about doing what's right."
If a large number of Democrats vote against the maps, it will indeed look bad for @GovEvers.
@RepMyers@GovEvers During her speech, @RepMyers called Senate Democrats "turncoats" for voting for the maps by Evers' commission.
All Senate Democrats voted for those maps except @SenTaylor.
(The commission maps were rejected in the Senate because majority Republicans also opposed them.)
U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson is calling on Wisconsin lawmakers to take over elections and tell local officials to ignore the work of the bipartisan state Elections Commission.
.@SenRonJohnson: "I think the state Legislature has to reassert, reclaim this authority over our election system.”
"There's no mention of the governor in the Constitution. It says state legislatures, and so if I were running the joint — & I’m not — I would come out & I would just say, 'We're reclaiming our authority. Don't listen to (@WI_Elections) anymore. Their guidances are null & void.'"
Johnson’s meeting with Wisconsin legislative leaders started at the same time as a hearing before the Assembly Elections Committee that is to feature Michael Gableman, the former state Supreme Court justice reviewing the election for Republicans.
There will be another hearing on tomorrow -- covering Assembly Republicans' review of the election and @RacineSheriff's recommendation to charge election officials w/ crimes.
State Sen. @KathleenBernie8 says her committee will conduct a review of an election audit in public.
That differs from an election review by Assembly Republicans and Michael Gableman that is being done in secret.
Bernier made her comments to @AJBayatpour on “Capital City Sun.”
Bernier says “that’s not for me to say” when asked if she thinks @WI_Elections broke the law regarding how it advised clerks on voting in nursing homes.
“I don’t necessarily agree with that but my opinion doesn’t matter,” Bernier says, noting lawmakers don’t enforce laws.
Bernier is the former county clerk for Chippewa County and now chairs the Senate Elections Committee.
