(1/X) Wow, we are up to 33 Alzheimer's Disease Research Centers (ADRC). I have scientifically "grown up" embedded in an ADRC and in case you are unfamiliar wanted to share a few resources with you...🧵
(2/X) For those new to the field of #AlzheimersDisease, the ADRCs are charged with extensive data sharing to National Alzheimer's Coodinating Center (NACC).
(4/X) Perhaps most important is the human aspect of the ADRCs. Their goal is to serve our patient population and to translate research advances. ADRCs are comprised of dedicated Cores to facilitate necessary infrastructure for neuroimaging and fluid biomarkers
(5/X) ADRCs have a long-standing and beautifully dedicated Outreach and Enagagement (ORE) core. These ORE cores facilitate conversations, empower community leaders, and raise awareness about dementia dementiaoutreach.mayo.edu/about/jacksonv…
(6/X) Neuropathology Cores are a critical component that allow for closure for the families, validation of biomarkers, critical observations of novel cellular changes, discovery science, and tissue resources for -omics nia.nih.gov/health/brain-d…
(7/X) NACC has nicely organized an ADRC biospecimen request page to easily locate tissue. Please have patience though as the humans pulling tissue are dedicated, but may also be under an avalanche of requests😉 naccdata.org/requesting-dat…
(8/X) Through the pledged support by @Alzheimers_NIH the national infrastructure supporting ADRCs has enabled major projects like ADNI, ACTC, @AMPADPortal, @LEADS_study, and many more
(9/X) Fearlessly led by @Nina_BSil
Thank you for your tireless efforts!
As a scientist, interactions with ADRC clinical colleagues has enabled dynamic discussions that continues to root my science in the human experience. I consider individuality of disease and how each case can slightly differ from the bell-shaped curve of "established" knowledge
