I failed to build an audience online.

Then I joined Twitter.

I went from 0 to 16,000 followers in 7 months.

Here’s how I started:
I created this account in 2020, and posted content for a month before I quit.

I tried Instagram in early 2021, but failed to consistently create enough content.

I came back to Twitter in April 2021, and everything changed.
Why did I join back Twitter?

I was still using Twitter, and following the journeys of some creators inspired me and changed my perspective.

Here’s a few:
Aadit Sheth (@aaditsh)
Bereket (@heybereket)
Sahil (@sahilypatel)
Blake Emal (@heyblake)
By following their growth and journey, I saw a common framework they were using to build an audience.

It was simple.

All of them were actively giving away free value in their niche.
How is it done?

This is commonly in the form of informative and resourceful threads, and occasionally a downloadable digital info product.

But more importantly, they were high quality content that clearly took effort to produce.
Everyone loves freebies, including myself.

When done right, you will attract the right audience to your account.
As their accounts grew bigger, I also noticed a common trend of a shift in the type of content they post.

They zoomed out of their niche, and occasionally post content that targets a larger audience.
Since the beginning of this account, I’ve always curated my content for the Notion community.

After reaching thousands of followers, I started to explore wider and different topics.

This include building in public, no-code and startups.
I didn’t buy any books or courses on growing on Twitter.

I learn by watching the growth of other creators, and then tried it for myself.

You can do it too.
Here are a few actionable steps:
• Create a list of top accounts in your niche
• Create a list of top accounts outside your niche
• Limit your following under your followers
• Tweet consistently 1-3 times per day
