Initial serious thoughts on the first episode of the English Dub:

the HUGE stand out for me is Howard Wang’s performance. While (like any dub) it isn’t perfect, to me, his voice encapsulates Xie Lian’s personality extremely well.
For me, while maybe there are moments where it feels a little stiff (it’s the first episode, so I think it’s more than fair to be generous), he captures the calm and gentle vibe VERY well, while also showing moments of iron underneath the soft exterior.
My FAVORITE line from him the entire episode was, “Well? What’s wrong? Are we fighting?”

The second stand out to me was DEFINITELY Lucien Dodge as Fu Yao/Mu Qing. Once again, a case where the VA COMPLETELY understood the assignment when it came to the character’s personality.
My favorite line was actually the one where he says, “Mind your own business next time—people bite the hand that feeds them. You should KNOW that.”

The scripting for Mu Qing was excellent here too—it adds SO MUCH DEPTH when you know the context of his story through the novels.
The only criticism I have of the first episode as a whole isn’t about any of the voice actors individually, but more about the directing/editing. There are weird pauses in the middle of lines from multiple actors that don’t feel natural, but that’s clearly a direction choice!
Finally: while we only got to hear James Cheek for MAYBE two minutes at the end of the episode, from what I can understand—this is his debut as a leading voice actor on a major production, and WOW, what A WAY TO DO IT!
There was something SPELLBINDING about his narration. You can just TELL that he understands the mindset behind the character, and that he actually cares about the story and getting it right.
The way his voice got breathless when he said, “Tales of his valor were often told…” I literally just could not look away from my TV. I probably rewatched JUST his narration three times. I wish him ALL of the success in the world, because THAT is talent. I’m officially a fan!
I’m someone who has sensory processing issues, so watching anything with language barrier makes it VERY difficult for me to take in any form of visual media, because my eyes miss a LOT when I’m struggling to take in the subtitles. This really did feel like a new experience!
I noticed SO many frames in the Donghua that I never saw prior to this, was able to take in so much more of the characters and their reactions. So, I’m REALLY grateful to the English cast and to funimation for making such a beautiful story more accessible to everyone!
REALLY excited for episode two, and so happy I get the opportunity to feel fully immersed in the experience for the first time 🥰 thank you @Funimation !

Thread Explaining my Open World Fantasy Epic that is WAY too much but I’ve been working on it for 9 years and it’s my baby:

It’s main focus is that it follows the royal bloodline of an empire from it’s founding, all the way to the modern era!
It has magic, monsters, politics, and more!

As a result of how massive and sprawling the world / lore are, there are 5 “series” worth of content happening at different places along a 10k+ year storyline, starting with series one, which is a creation myth/origin story! Details: Image
The second series takes place nine hundred years after the founding of said Empire, following it through a civil war / collapse into seven separate and independent nations. Details HERE: Image

Also, to anyone who is confused about why TGCF got a dub before MDZS: MDZS the Donghua doesn’t have an official international distributor, it can ONLY be viewed through TencentTV, and there is no sign that is going to change in the near future.
Obviously I don’t have the licensing contract from Bilibili in front of me so I can’t tell you what the exact terms were, but when Funimation got the initial international streaming rights they almost certainly negotiated the rights to dub it simultaneously.
My main theory for WHY MDZS hasn’t been licensed internationally is probably because MXTX as a brand didn’t have the same broad international popularity back then, and TencentTV was probably able to place an exclusivity clause of some sort within the contract itself.

One hour into #redtaylorsversion and so far the highlight REMASTERS (not as songs over all, but the most elevated from the originals) so far are:

22
We Are Never Getting Back Together
The Last Time
22 — FUCK her new vocal overlays are SO good, and now it feels so much more meaningful to have someone nearly 10 years removed singing about that time!

We Are Never Getting Back Together — there’s so much more emotional weight to this version—a little less playful, but GORGEOUS
The Last Time — now, it sounds like a song that could have been on FOLKLORE LMAO, and GARY LIGHTFOOT?? UNDERSTOOD THE ASSIGNMENT GOOD GOD??

Hello Evie!~ I'm glad that so talented writer come to our fandom, it's very nice to meet your creativity! But I'd… — Hey! I don’t find this message rude or prying at all, and I can absolutely understand how it must seem that way o… curiouscat.qa/CATACLYSMICEVI…
Also just to add further context to the difference between this fandom and my last one, I had a mild anxiety attack and almost deleted my tweet about Xie Lian’s body type, thinking it might start “top/bottom discourse” but then I remembered this fandom is BSD and it was fine bc
Also it helps that this is a much bigger fandom and I am, by far, NOT the biggest author in it the way I was in BSD, so there’s a lot less pressure and the expectations aren’t as insane. I do get bad comments are a part of the gig, and I know I can be a little over sensitive 😭

Is the rumours about the author of TGCF got put in jail true? I'm new to the fandom and I stumbled upon some post… — Some people have done extensive research tracking her movements and say it could go one way or the other. Persona… curiouscat.qa/cataclysmiceve…
The one thing that makes me sincerely doubt the prison theory the most is the fact that TGCF and the Untamed got distribution deals on Netflix, and I’ve always wondered why no one brought that up 🤔
Because Netflix has a pretty intense longterm plan to being able to secure a launch in China (they’re currently targeting the global mandarin audience to create domestic pressure on the government) and they wouldn’t want to risk that

Hey guys! So while I understand the thread is very long, please don’t reply with any thread reader bots! I’m happy to share a link to the unrolled version with anyone who needs it to catch up, but attaching the bot to the thread too many times can make it glitch
I totally understand most people not wanting to scroll from the beginning, which is why I’m fine with sharing the unrolled version, but making the thread glitch could potentially mess it up for people who want to read it on Twitter only
I’m not upset about it, only saying something because the thread is long enough now and has had the bot attached enough times that I’m worried it might make twitter go wonky. She’s a finicky beast! ❤️
