It's finally here! 😍 #MacBookPro2021 Image
Here are my first impressions so far:
(Note, it's the M1 Max, 32GB RAM, 24 GPU core model)

I've only just restored my files (it took way too long, but I'm still using a slow HDD to backup so, it is what it is) Image
Compared to my 16" MacBook Pro, the fingerprint sensor feels at least 3x faster, I only need a light tap and it insta unlocks. It's finally "amazing" level, in my books!
Currently have 55 tabs open in Chrome, Spotlight is indexing, and have at least 8 apps running (such as Discord, Slack, Asana, Spotify, Messenger, Telegram) and the fan is idle, the average temperature is 45-55 C.
(Running on its own, not plugged in, no external monitor)
Most of my content was restored properly, Launchpad still doesn't carry over... so it'll take hours to set it up again! Come on Apple, everything is so smooth, why not sync this from previous backups??
It's 1AM here in the UK, so didn't blast the speakers just yet, so will have to test it in the morning, but somehow Apple managed to make the already mind-blowing 2019 Mac's speakers even better! It's amazing, well balanced, fine-tuned.
Writing all of this on the keyboard and it feels rock-solid, although I was also very happy with the 2019 model. Mousepad is great too, but I miss the screen brightness adjuster – which is now 'hidden' in the quick settings panel. It's a nitpick, but prefer physical controls.
I love that the Touchbar is gone. As a software engineer/web dev. I never really found any use for it, and having physical F keys are so much more useful to me personally. It was a good idea, and it may be useful for some, but not for the majority imo.
Didn't notice the 120Hz ProMotion display yet, but the scrolling feels very smooth. The notch is up in my face, but I don't mind it on such a large display, and yes, the mouse does go behind it. 🤔
HDR content (only tested YouTube so far) is absolutely mind-blowing! Colors are beautiful, everything is sharp, contrast is on point, blacks are black. First impression is that this is the best I've seen so far, and likely won't have a monitor better than this.
Currently have 70 tabs open, even more apps open and the fan isn't even on, and I'm connected to my monitor via Thunderbolt (it shares screen/charges up to 60W). The 2019 Mac always had at least 1500 RPM on the fan and 20W consumption due to the bug that never got fixed. 1/2
It seems like the new Macs finally no longer have this problem and they're actually usable and perform exactly the way you'd expect. I'll connect my 3rd monitor soon via HDMI and see if that changes anything 2/2
Well, just had the strangest thing ever. I restarted the Mac to check something and it wouldn't let me log back in, even though the password was 100% correct. I went into recovery (which accepted my password) and boot it back using the default drive and it worked 🤔 What?
Restarted the laptop twice since this incident, and it hasn't happened again, although the keyboard defaults to my first language when starts up, or restarts which is weird. The keyboard wasn't the issue when the problem happened though, it didn't accept the password.
The performance has been butter smooth so far, and I am yet to hear the fans turn on and above 1500 RPM. Connected my USB-C monitor and a 22" TV and it didn't even feel it. My 2019 16" would've been a jet engine by now, struggling to keep the system cool.
I can see this being frustrating in the future, but the Mac wakes up so fast, that my USB-C monitor just can't keep up with it, and it keeps moving windows back to the main screen (which is set to be the Mac's screen)

I'm impressed, just wish there was a setting 🤔
