🧵 The @GorillasWorkers Council election process is a story of resilience, patience and bad faith bullying by @gorillasapp
In March 2021, 3 Gorillas workers initiated Workers Council process.
After months of negotiations/change of venues, management agreed on a date: June 3.
The general assembly on June 3rd was the largest assembly of Gorillas Workers in one room together, without management present. 9 people were elected by workers to the Wahlvorstand (Electoral Council)
Immediate after, Gorillas management responded they were going to challenge it
They responded by restructuring the single Germany wide Gorillas Technologies GmbH into Gorillas Operations Germany GmbH, so that headquarters could be excluded from the riders/warehouse workers. This was not actively opposed by the Wahlvorstand
But this was not enough for management, they used this jurisdictional argument to sue the Wahlvorstand and claim the assembly in June 3rd was null and void, and therefore the Workers Council (#Betriebsrat) election next week, null and void.
#b1711 the judges today in Berlin Labour Court today was not having any of it today, and threw the lawsuit out. The Workers Council election will proceed as planned. The success and inspiration belong to the @GorillasWorkers who persevered against an aggressive employer ❤️🔥
Missing from this brief summary are the various wildcat strikes, retaliatory layoffs and worker demands/motivations for organizing. We’re compiling further worker inquiries for historic preservation of this legendary campaign
