Sound like a DAO? Basically, an Upstream Collective is a DAO, evolved.
We took the tech stack required to host a DAO, and put it all in one place.
It is an intentional choice to use the word “Collective,” not DAO. We’re committed to using accessible language.
Crypto jargon shouldn’t keep people out of the conversation.
How does an Upstream Collective work?
Upstream Collectives members can contribute money into the community’s shared ETH wallet, write proposals for how the money should be used, and vote on all the decisions made by the community.
Here’s a video!
The problem is that today’s community tools are built on technology of yesterday, not tomorrow.
Today, a person running a community collects money and votes on decisions manually. A leader ultimately controls the community entirely.
It's opaque and inefficient.
In the past 2 years, we've learned a ton at @joinupstream hosting 500+ communities, 5,000+ events, and 25,000+ community members.
We built Upstream Collectives to make communities more transparent, efficient, and equitable
9 year ago, @baconseason and I joined Dwolla. To set the scene, Bitcoin was under $5 on the day we joined. Dwolla was one of the first companies to work with Bitcoin and blockchain.
Almost a decade later we are back in the blockchain game and it feels great.
Today we’re opening our first-ever Upstream Collective to the NFT Community.
@DrewAustin & I are going to have a lot of fun with this.
This is very much a learning experience as we experiment with the collective members.
