Reminder that the federal budget mostly on autopilot is on track to spend ~$60T with ~$45T revenue over next decade. BBB changes the trajectory of that spending and taxing by a few percent.
BBB is a lot smaller than Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, the Defense Department, etc. is it big? Yes. ARP and CARES were similar in size but on a *much* more compressed timeline. This is long-term bill.
Remember fiscal cliff deal? The deficit impact of that Obama-Biden-McConnell law extending most of the Bush tax cuts *but not Obama’s* is about $500B a year *today.*
There’s no guarantee any of these programs that expire in future years get extended. Imagine trying to get Boehner’s House or McConnell’s Senate to affirmatively extend the ACA? Repeal was hard. Nixing by sitting on hands is easier.

Sheldon Whitehouse told me he's still waiting for a public commitment on climate from Fed Chair Jerome Powell, and says Brainard is "distinctly better" on that issue
"He hasn't won my vote"
bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
Elizabeth Warren continues to oppose a Powell pick and warns his views on deregulating big financial institutions are a big risk to the economy bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
This comes as Manchin is going to meet with Powell; problem is how do you make both Sheldon Whitehouse and Joe Manchin happy on Fed/climate?

Maybe you don't need to because a lot of Rs are pushing Biden to pick Powell.

Sherrod Brown “absolutely certain” Senate would confirm either Brainard or Powell. Via ⁦@LauraLitvanbloomberg.com/news/articles/…
Portman told me he personally urged Biden to select Powell. Sees Brainard as more of a dove amid concerns about Fed balance sheet and inflation.
Murkowski said she spoke to Biden yesterday when I asked about Fed chair and Powell/Brainard. Wouldn’t detail the conversation though as she headed into lunch.

I've never seen so many party showers -- didn't even know the term, until I started looking at expensive mansions. They almost all above about $6M seem to have them these days. #FridayNightZillow
Affordable history! Press corps should buy this house for covering Biden in Wilmington. $289,900. Nice. 1749. #FridayNightZillow zillow.com/homedetails/23…
Almost done, but you won't want to miss the next couple houses! We're going to end with a bang. #FridayNightZillow

+Much, much more...

FIRST on #FridayNightZillow: a BONKERS mansion known for holding some of Georgia's biggest and craziest parties.

16,900 sf, 15 acres, $2.5M

Includes "the largest private Chinese Garden and the largest residential fountain system in the United States" zillow.com/homedetails/13…
The garden has *350* fountain heads, per an article in The Palm Beach Post on the lavish party the owners held for 300 when it was done. A fun read at the link: newspapers.com/clip/23432297/…

It's 2021 and we still haven't figured out how to stop robocall car warranty scams.
Like, SpaceX can land office-building-sized rockets on drone ships in the middle of the ocean, but the phone companies / FTC / Congress somehow can't figure out how to block / track down / put out of business these scammers?
I wonder if a 1-5 cents a call phone tax - replacing other per line phone taxes - would end this practice.

Fun fact: If Mitt Romney had invested $200M in Tesla on Oct. 3, 2012, he'd be worth ~$36 billion today.
That in turn would be enough to buy a Tesla for most of the households in Utah. He could have been Oprah-like, but for an entire state. "You get a car and you get a car..."
Fwiw, Romney drives a nice Cadillac SUV and likes to drive it himself, unlike a lot of other senators who often get driven around.

Tesla drivers in Congress that I'm aware of:
Massie
AOC
I think Schiff?
Heinrich
Kelly
Carper
