I don't remember when I began reading @DavidNeiwert's Orcinus blog but it was something like 20 years ago. Hi wrote about what he called eliminationism. It's the opposite of democracy because it's rooted in the idea that Those who disagree with you do not deserve to live.
The useful thing about the term eliminationism is that It isn't about a particular party. It's about an idea. The idea that might makes right and victory should be total and eternal and that's only achieved by eliminating the opposition.
Rush Limbaugh was like a 1st wave eliminationist. He focused on delegitimizing opposition and dehumanizing political opponents.He was joined by other 1st waivers including G. Gordon Liddy who gave instructions on where to shoot federal law enforcement to avoid there body armor
Elimination extends to the idea that anyone who votes for your opposition is an illegitimate voter. When black people vote that's voter fraud that's why it's okay to suppress their vote Supreme court agreed if you read black people as democrats then it's okay to suppress
They started passing laws making it okay to drive your car into a crowd and kill people if they're protesters. And now we have members of congress fighting with each other over who gets to hire a terrorist thug. The Republican party has fully embraced eliminationism.
They don't even pretend anymore. Republicans used to call themselves the party of law and order but They never meant law, they only meant order. Now embrace disorder so long as the violence, the murder, the rioting, is done by their side
Republicans, in seeking to delegitimize the Democratic party , have embraced eliminationism and delegitimized themselves. They are no longer a party that believes in democracy and in the constitution. They are a cabal In the midst of an attempt to end democracy
