SUGAR CRAVINGS!!
Our bodies use glucose as a primary fuel source,so our brains have evolved to like sweet foods.Consuming sugar activates the dopamine system, the brain’s reward system.Dopamine, the feel-good chemical messenger,is then released and reinforces our desire for sugar
When we frequently consume sugary foods, our brains adapt to require more sugar to experience the same rewarding feeling. So you repeat the behavior, again and again, thereby further strengthening the circuit.
WHY YOU CRAVE MORE SUGAR?
Re-think your sugar cravings, we often think we are addicted to sugar, but rather its our body's way of telling you something else that you need to look at!!!
Below are the few reasons why you maybe experiencing sugar cravings!
NOT EATING ENOUGH CARBS!
Body needs carbs as energy, make sure you're eating enough at meals. This is also important for blood sugar balance. Choose complex carbs like whole grains, fruits and vegetables over the processed ones(bread, chops, pastries)
NOT EATING ENOUGH FIBRE
Fibre is great for digestion and blood sugars. When we eat a meal with little or no fibre there is sudden rise in blood sugar. The result of this is a carb-crash and thereafter tired, hungry and craving for more sugar.
SKIPPING MEALS:
When there are long gaps between the meal cells become starved for fuel and the brain sends out a signal that we need to consume more carbs, now instead of grabbing a fruit,we indulge in a more food loaded with refined sugar leading the craving cycle to continue.
LACK OF GOOD QUALITY PROTEIN AND FAT in the diet, can mean bigger blood sugar swings. Protein takes a little longer to be broken down in our body and helps in keeping the blood sugar steady.
STRESS
When we are stressed, we have a high level of hormone called cortisol and we crave sugar because if eat some sugar the body will release a hormone called serotonin (calming and relaxing hormone). You get stuck in an unhealthy cycle where the actual problem is not addressed
MINERAL DEFICIENCY
Zinc, chromium and magnesium imbalances manifest themselves as sugar cravings.
SLEEP
Lack of sleep has shown to reduce appetite control and increases food cravings.
MANAGEMENT 1. Choose whole foods. The closer a food is to its original form, the less processed sugar it will contain. Food in its natural form, including fruits and vegetables, usually presents no metabolic problems for a normal body, especially when consumed in variety.
MANAGEMENT(cont..) 2. Eat a healthy diet that includes fruits, vegetables, whole grains. Make sure every meal that you eat, contains protein, complex carbs and healthy fats. This will keep you fuller for long period and stabilize your blood sugars.
3 Listen to your body
Body is constantly providing feedback. But,are you listening?
Its important that you are eating in a way that
🔸Provides you with all the nutrients you require.
🔸Satisfies your Hunger cues
🔸Helps you live optimally from a disease stand point
🔸Sustainable
4. Sleep: Getting enough quality sleep can increase energy levels and impulse control while reducing sugar cravings.
5. Exercise, dance or do some yoga. Whatever movement you enjoy will help reduce tension, boost your energy and decrease your need for a sugar lift.

1 in 5 Indians is silently living with Constipation
Most people ignore constipation leading to the accumulation of toxins in the body!
A thread 🧵on why regular dependency on laxative is not a solution, dietary&lifestyle changes to manage constipation
Lets go👇
🔸What is constipation?
Constipation is a condition in which a person has infrequent bowel movements. A person is considered to be constipated when bowel movements result in passage of small amounts of hard, dry stool, usually fewer than 3 times a week.
🔸Causes of constipation:
Some of the causes of constipation👇
▪️low fibre diet
▪️Unhealthy gut microbiome
▪️Side-effect of medicines-antacids,iron&calcium
▪️Less/irregular sleep
▪️Inadequate water intake
▪️Sedentary lifestyle
▪️Stress
▪️Avoiding the urge, when it arises
An essential part of the diet,
Proteins are key structural components for your body.
They help your body repair cells and make new ones.
A thread🧵 on why proteins are important and the various sources of proteins
Lets go👇
What is protein?
Proteins are chains of amino acid(AA). Each protienmolecule usually comprises of a variety of AAs.The variety of AAs that a prot has to offer is what determines the superiority of the prot source
There are 3 groups of AAs
1.non-essential
2.essential
3.conditional
1.Non-essential amino acids are those that our bodies already have a supply of/we have the ability to make them on our own
2.Essential amino acids-those that we must gather from the foods we eat
3.Conditional amino acids-only essential during times of severe stress/trauma
Iron is a key nutrient in the body
🩸Needed to make hemoglobin
🩸Strengthen the immune system
🩸Red blood cell production
Iron-deficiency anemia is the most common nutritional deficiency.
A thread🧵on the importance of iron&sources of iron👇
🩸Why Is Iron Intake Important?
➡️It’s primarily known for its role in creating hemoglobin, a protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen from the lungs to various other parts of the body
➡️It’s involved in the production of myoglobin,a protein that provides oxygen to muscles
➡️Iron even participates in the production of hormones, physical growth, cellular functioning and neurological development as well
➡️Iron helps in synthesis of DNA
➡️ It helps in cognitive function as iron helps in synthesis of some neurotransmitter
Calcium!
Calcium is the most abundant mineral in our body .
99% of our body's calcium is found in bones . The remaining 1% is involved in muscle function.
A 🧵on why the body needs calcium, foods rich in calcium, the pros&cons of taking supplements
Let's go👇
▶️Introduction
🔸Calcium is a mineral found in many foods. It is used by the body to build bones&keep bones&teeth strong
🔸Calcium has other roles in the body too:it helps muscles to contract, helps nerves to carry messages, cells to give of hormones&blood vessels to move blood
🔸About 99% of the body’s total calcium is stored in the bones& teeth
🔸Calcium blood levels are carefully controlled by a hormone-parathyroid hormone
🔸It helps control calcium by impacting absorption from the intestine, kidneys&bone so the muscles, nerves&blood vessels can use
Hypoglycemia is common in people who have diabetes.
It can also sometimes affect people without diabetes.
Did you know dangerous levels of low blood glucose can lead to death?
A🧵 on what is hypoglycemia&the rule of 15 approach to manage it👇
▶️Introduction
Hypoglycemia or low blood sugar occurs when the glucose concentration in the blood drops below normal, which can potentially harm the patients.
▶️What is Blood glucose?
Blood glucose or blood sugar, is the main sugar found in your blood.
It is your body's primary source of energy. It comes from the food you eat.
Your body breaks down most of that food into glucose and releases it into your bloodstream
