Consider the “truth” @drjamesmerritt “rejoices” in & claims is “faithful to the gospel and the coming of Jesus.”

I listened to the “sermon,” and it was completely VOID of THE gospel. It’s pure Henry Emerson Fosdick social gospel!

Here’s the content of what Dr. Merritt praises…
Jonathan Merritt’s “Jesus:”

The message begins with Jesus going to Jerusalem. He describes Jesus’ cursing of the fig tree in this way.

“Jesus is so hungry that he grows grumpy…. He curses the fig tree even though it wasn’t fig season. Talk about an over reaction.”
He interprets Jesus’ prediction of the destruction of the Temple:

“Jesus is reminding us of a God-honest truth… Nothing lasts forever. The (things we build) are all temporary. If you were a Buddhist, you would this impermanence. Us Christians call it a fact of life.”
When the disciples privately ask when this will take place, Jonathan says Jesus’ response is:

“You want a clear timeline for the future? That day and hour no one knows… When Jesus goes apocalyptic, he isn’t speaking of the future but the precariousness of the present.”
“Jesus uses the future tense to say things are happening and will keep happening. This is just all part of life for those living on planet earth. Jesus says the world is always ending somewhere for someone. The loss you feel at the end of YOUR world is not the end of THE world.”
“What should we do when the world we depend on slips away? Jesus says ‘keep watch.’ When your world falls apart, you don’t need to worry…. This pain is a sign of new life for you.”
Regarding Second Coming of Jesus. Remember, @drjamesmerritt says this sermon is faithful to that truth:

“Christ is always coming again. We can begin to believe there is a living God who can bring forth new life out of the endings we experience…”
“The stones of our life will fall and one will not be left upon another. The world is always ending and Christ is always coming…”

Regarding pain in this world, “the universe is a cosmic delivery room and the Creator is saying ‘push, push, push,’ until new life comes forth.”
Here is the only mention or explanation of the “gospel in the sermon that @drjamesmerritt says is “faithful.”
It should disturb us that @drjamesmerritt, a professor at @SEBTS, publicly promotes a sermon by an openly homosexual man.

But the fact that he calls this “faithful to the gospel and coming of Jesus” is even more troubling. If this is the gospel at @sebts, we’re in trouble!

How long til evangelicals say the same thing about MAP (Minor Attracted Persons) as SSA?

Of course, there is gospel hope for EVERY sinner. But we must ask some hard questions.

For example, will @LivingOutOrg apply the same "inclusive" audit for MAP as SSA? If not, why not?

While I absolutely agree with points 3, 4, 5, & 6 for every sinner in our churches, let's insert MAP into the @LivingOutOrg audit. Why would they not say this?

1. "Your church family meetings include people who could be labeled LGBTI+/are minor attracted persons."
2/6
7. "A godly Christian's sexual orientation - including minor attracted persons - would never prevent them from exercising their spiritual gifts or serving in leadership in your church."

Read this thread and watch clips. This is a SBC church that was planted by @NAMB_SBC and lead church Johnson Ferry. The pastor of JF at the time was Bryan Wright (President of @sendrelief).

When planted, both husband and wife had title “lead pastor.”

How did this happen?
Now, @NAMB_SBC removed CenterSet from its website after it was exposed in Feb 2021. I’m also told that NAMB privately claims this church paid back the money given to them. But NAMB helped plant this church and needs to be held accountable. This at least calls for the following…
.@NAMB_SBC should

1) Issue a public statement with proof that CenterSet paid back all money NAMB gave them.

2) Explain how churches with a woman as a lead pastor have been planted with NAMB money in the first place.

3) Reveal what NAMB has done to prevent this in the future.
