read a bunch of stuff this morning. hard to understand what is actually happening in the world. but some vibes include

- europe integration halting or reversing

- no clear western response to russia in ukraine

- republicans quietly bouyant, dems quietly collapsing
- woke narrative quietly collapsing on account of previous point as an electoral liability, people are starting to say this out loud and more papers are printing it

- china maybe muddling through real estate collapse by spreading damage out over time but still at risk
- turkey in really deep shit. just totally fucked with currency collapse and dollar denominated debt coming due hard and fast, energy imports costing dollars

- UK conservative rebellion brewing, hadnt had that on my bingo card
trying to digest all of this

something about global domestic instability increasing, not seeping out into international stage yet but maybe pressure building and could spill around fast
like ok scenario

turkey goes tits up, maybe fighting between factions, maybe erdogan drives economy into ground, fuel shortages, place gets unlivable

what happens if not just syrians but turks flee to Europe in a wave and turkey isnt in a state to stop them bc theyre tits up
by popular demand ill put out a roundup semiregularly going forward. like with links

vit had links here a piece on the history of the importation of the prussian educational model to the united states. i think its worth reading and basically agree with it although i think some arguments need more context

the thread i write now is not about that essay however
in his essay vit quotes a report from Michigan State University sponsored by the Department of Education

this seemed mildy insane to me so i did what any normal person would do and sat down and read the entire report

you can find it here… ImageImage
this was worth doing for two reasons

rt 🔒, speculation. evidence entered in the second two screencaps i think.

im not sure it would matter as schools are entirely capable of pivoting to alternative entry requirements that produce the "desired" outcome without affirmative action anyway ImageImageImageImage
in some ways this would be worse than status quo, to the extent that these alternative measures would be even more game-able by affluent candidates
read a bit more last night. this piece was interesting as a history of jurisprudence and ideas.

it got me thinking specifically . . .…

pondering my orb trying to figure out what happened. what is the cause.

covid response is a symptom. trump: symptom. i think wokeness is a symptom--we /had/ a cultural immune system that handled this more or less well.

alternatively: diseases that were present but subclinical
i guess the proper term for these things is "opportunistic infections"

illnesses that a healthy person would shrug off, but which can be fatal when a compromised individual is exposed Image
accept this claim and metaphor arguendo:

what immunity might we have lost?

where did it originate?

why did we lose it?

who controls byzantium in 2030
A call!

That is no country for young men. The old
Grasp land and office, enshackle the youth.
Keep palaces of stone, hands weighed with gold;
Their dreams in tatters, fading, long forsaking truth.
And therefore we have brought cannon and drum
To the holy city of Byzantium.
nothing unites Europe like a crusade think it over guys Image
