"So as we've always done in considering our plan for the New Zealand border, we've studied carefully the experiences of other countries overseas and we've followed the science closely. As a result we do now consider...that the most restrictive border controls can be eased"
"We've always said we would open the border in a controlled way when it was safe to do so"
"We acknowledge that it has been very tough...we are acutely aware of the impact that these restrictions have had on individuals lives and their livelihoods"
"We know that the pandemic is not over and it's not going to suddenly end and we only need to look at Europe to see the path out of the global pandemic is not a straightforward one"

My predictions for 2022:

1. As we head into autumn, cases will start to skyrocket. This will be blamed on waning immunity, greater freedom of movement, the unvaccinated and possibly a new strain.
2. As cases increase, the Government will respond by ramping up their booster shot campaign, introducing broader mandates, further reducing the freedom of movement of the unvaccinated and possibly putting regions into semi-lockdown to “protect the health system” and “save lives”.
3. Alongside increasing COVID case numbers as winter approaches, we’ll also see an influx of other non-COVID related illnesses overwhelming our health system. This will include a big increase in circulatory issues, such as strokes and heart attacks, as well as cancer.

“Our plan is…with those good high rates of vaccination…we shouldn’t have to use what they call stay at home orders…that we can use other measures, ongoing contact tracing, isolation…” @jacindaardern @TheAMShowNZ
“My job, while I’m in this role, is to continue to get us through safely, with as fewer restrictions as possible, with as much freedom as possible, that’s what guided us to date and that’s what will continue to guide me”
“I’ve always wanted to have the fewest restrictions possible whilst keeping people safe”

The Prime Minister posted “let’s talk about side effects” and opened a huge can of worms with thousands of New Zealanders speaking out. This is what they had to say… Image

The Prime Minister has opened Pandora’s Box. 7.5k comments in 2 hours. Scrolls of people posting about serious vaccine side effects and deaths along with scathing criticisms. The censors are going to be busy tonight. #COVID19nz
Ardern has opened a can of worms. 12k comments and counting. If she deletes the post it looks bad. If she censors thousands of comments it also looks bad. Not going to be easy getting that genie back in the bottle.
There’s now over 19k comments with claims thousands more have been deleted.
