We had a heartwarming story of a life saved this week. If you ever wondered what would happen if you had a medical emergency on a GO train…well next to an emergency room, you could be in no better spot…/1
A GO train is like a travelling village of people, nurses, doctors, police & fire fighters, EMS, experts in all kinds of fields. When someone is in medical distress, like what happened recently to the man suffering a heart attack, someone presses the yellow strip /2
If you’ve been on a train before you may be familiar with the crew announcing “Code 1033” along with the coach - that means there is an emergency situation on board. If you have medical or emergency training you know what it means & you attend to the coach to help /3
So a few weeks ago when a GO train passenger had the unlucky experience of having a potentially fatal heart attack, he was in the right place - in spite of being in the middle of no where. A nurse & doctor were on board & came to his aid quickly administering lifesaving help. /4
Then our CSA - trained in First Aid, CPR & carrying the AED - arrived to help shock that heart back to life. The village of people on the train ensured he was not alone & got the help he needed. And if not them that day, there were many others on board the train ready to help /5
