Representatives from @MOHmentalhealth, Presidential advisor mental health Dr Frank Njenga & Chair Mathari National Teaching & Referral Hospital Prof. Lukoye Atwoli held a consultative meeting with the National Assembly’s committee on health over Mental Health Amendment Bill 2020.
The proposed law aims to amend the Mental Health Act Cap. 248 of 1989 to provide legislative framework on a holistic approach to mental health, prevention of mental illness and reduction of the impact of mental illness.
The mental health amendment bill also seeks to facilitate recovery, reintegration & safeguarding of the rights of persons suffering from mental illness in the country. The bill which was passed by the senate on 15th September this year, is currently before the national assembly.
