My alma mater's student union passed a BDS motion last night which would do the following,
(1) The motion requires the student union to “refrain from engaging with organizations, services, or participating in events that further normalize Israeli apartheid
(2)The student union will post a list of blacklisted companies and organizations on their website.
(3)The motion defines antisemitism for the Jewish students on campus, and explicitly differentiates between [bad] Jewish students “inherently in violation of the BDS policy” through their support of Israel, and good Jewish students who reject Israel’s oppression.
(4)Suppliers of kosher food would need to gain exemptions to sell kosher food (and only if BDS-compliant kosher food providers cannot be identified).
(5) A motion presented by Jewish students at UofT Scarborough was removed of all amendments that would contain language recognizing the rights of Jewish students.
6) Amendments removed assurances that Jewish students who affiliate with outside organizations like Hillel will continue to have club recognition.
(7) Before the pandemic, almost all space available for student extra-curricular activities was controlled by the student government, including the campus pub.
(8) Scarborough Campus Student Union has long declared that Israel is an "apartheid state". With the motion they have passed last night, Jewish students at UofT Scarborough have become "separate but equal" in the student body
Please share this. This Jewish community is smaller compared to other Canadian universities. They need support and they need help. This second BDS motion has gone far above even earlier BDS efforts.
