Very concerned about recent events in CIDE – a major research center in Law and Social Sciences in Mexico City. CIDE has been suffering from a set of government measures attempting to weaken its institutional capacity. 1/n
The government now intends to impose a new director who has proven to be an authoritarian and has treated both colleagues and students with contempt. This is a shame, to say the least. 2/n #YoDefiendoAlCIDE
Historically, CIDE has provided the country with academics, commentators and policymakers. Many have recurrently contributed to enrich public debate, while showing a strong social commitment. CIDE has promoted social mobility and fostered human capital. 3/n
For me, this is very frustrating. CIDE is the place where I discovered economics, several years ago, and where I had my first job in academia as a research assistant.
I still have many esteemed colleagues and former professors, and know some of the current students. 4/n
I support them all, as do many other academic institutions in Mexico and abroad, and accompany their fight which is also mine. 5/n #YoDefiendoAlCIDE
