For the last #PitMad, I downloaded and analyzed all of the pitches to see what works and what doesn't. 🤓

In this thread, I'll recap a lot of what I learned, so you can keep it in mind for Thursday.

Everything I'll provide will be backed up with hard data. 👍

PitMad is VERY popular. No Agent can comb through every pitch. Instead they monitor tags.

So...USE TAGS!!

Some tags are in more demand than others. Use these threads to help you identify what tags to use.

Age Tag Thread: (don't use NA)

Here's a thread on Genre Tags:

Certain genres like Fantasy are extremely hot right now, but the market is crowded, so it makes it harder to get an agent like.

Other Genres have fewer agents but authors have a better chance of getting likes.
Diversity tags:

If you qualify to use a diversity tag, use it!

Many agents look for diversity tags, so it boosts your visibility.

Last time, certain tags didn't perform well, but they did far better in subsequent pitch parties.
Timing:

A lot of people will tell you to pitch first thing in the morning, then at lunch, but the numbers show that it's best to pitch early.

That said, if everyone follows this advice, it's going to flip, so keep that in mind.
Engagement: RT's and Comments are both good for attracting agents

The catch is that fabricated engagement (swaps, etc) didn't create a big boost. There's a natural engagement that occurs with a genuinely good pitch, so focus on your pitch content!!!

Pitch Structure: Comps, Emojis and White Space were positives for pitch performance. The most interesting analysis had to do with line breaks.

Lists and structured pitches did well. A block of text can work, but consider adding a pitch w white space.

More than anything, remember to have fun. Only 4-5% of pitches get agent likes in #PitMad, so your odds of getting published from this event are low.

This is a great exercise to improve your pitch and a means to network and meet new writers.
That's it for now. Let me know if you have any questions in particular. I'll do my best to keep up with them. Keep an eye out for the tag #PitchStats to see the analysis for this #PitMad.
