Sam Cooke was the first African-American to establish his own independent publishing company & he fought major labels for his independence on the regular.
After he financed the MLK March on Washington and his efforts to bring Malcom X & MLK together, the FBI and Cointelpro had Sam on their radar.
Sam Cooke lived a life that deserved to be made into a film. He should have been one of the first Black icons to have a film made about him, but Allen Klein stymied any plans. He didn't want anyone poking around or interrogating him.
Klein had ties to the shadowy underworld of organized crime. He was ready to be fired by Sam Cooke. Sam discovered Klein was taking his business from under his nose with the help of JW Alexander. Klein managed the Beatles' breakup a few years later.

Jackie Wilson's personal life was riddled with misfortunes. Wilson was shot & injured in a shootout in 1961 when he returned to his apartment with another lady, an ex-girlfriend of Sam Cooke, one of his girlfriends, Juanita Jones, shot and wounded him in a jealous frenzy.
Wilson's first wife, Freda Hood, with whom he had four children, divorced him after 14 years of marriage in 1965. Jackie, Jr., Wilson's 16-year-old son, was shot and killed on a neighbor's porch in 1970, and two of Wilson's daughters died at an early age as well.
Sandra, his daughter, died of an apparent heart attack in 1977 at the age of 24. In 1988, Jacqueline Wilson was slain in Highland Park, Michigan, in a drug-related incident. Wilson was saddened by the death of Jackie Jr., and for the next few years he lived in seclusion.
Al Green was visiting his lover Mary Woodson's house in 1974, a few years after he became a huge star. She was married at the time, but when Al told her he wasn't going to marry her, she got into an argument with him.
He hopped in the shower to get away from the fight... while he was in there, Mary dumped a pan of boiling grits over the top of the shower door. Al suffered third-degree burns to his back, stomach, and arms as a result of it.
Then she shot herself with his gun, and he understood he had lost control of his life and resolved to return to God as soon as possible.
