Where do I even begin ? I don’t think I will be able to sleep without fully expressing my disappointment .I had serious expectations as this movie had won the best film award at the National film awards and had Priyadarshan and Mohanlal at the helm. (1/n)
I will try to pen down my main observations.
1.Mohanlal had a forgettable outing in the movie as the lead character. He really looked out of place in the fight scenes which was really highlighted in his sequence with Arjun Sarja.Never for once I felt that I was #Marakkar
watching the great Kunjali marakkar who terrorised the seas on the big screen.
2.Too many characters with too little to do.Why bring Sunil Shetty and Arjun to do such weak characters ? Not just them but many other character actors never looked cohesive in the movie.(3/n)
3.Poor fight choreography. The war scenes whether in sea or in land looked below average at best. They looked like a mess to be honest.
4.The sequences in sea were too dark and couldn’t really comprehend wtf was happening in the screen. Although some vfx scenes were (4/n)
impressive , I don’t see any justification for the national award for special effects to this movie. Like I said the war scenes were a mess and saying that they were some of the worst in the recent times won’t be an exaggeration. (5/n)
5.Underwhelming direction from one of the ace filmmakers of our country. The movie which began so well was let down so badly. Two songs which really made no impact to the movie played in quick succession and that really tested my patience. It was amateurish to say the least (6/n)
6.The story was ok but the screenplay was poor and that made all the difference in the end. It was all too predictable in the end but still could have been made into a far better movie with better cinematography and fight choreography alone. #Marakkar
7.Dialogues never really connected with the audience and whatever the director wanted to convey never materialised. Many booed when Marakkar spoke and that is a testament to it. #Marakkar
8.Finally for a movie about someone who was a naval commander , there was very few scenes in the sea and that were so badly filmed that I don’t even want to begin to describe. #Marakkar
I think I will end even though I am still angry about this.I will repeat : Such a shame that this movie got the national award.(n/n) #Marakkar
A few things that i missed.
This movie doesn’t engage a viewer except for the first 30 minutes or so.The screenplay lacked those elements which would make a viewer hooked to the story.
I never felt any connection with the lead character or his patriotic or noble deeds.#Marakkar
