tapping the sign by my door that says local village idiot but after looking through a lot of 1800s stuff it really really kind of seems like everyone acted like and spoke as though states had the right to secede and leave the union right up until some of them actually did it.
i mean are we really supposed to think that when the states entered the union they all thought explicitly that if they ever tried to leave the other states would come there with soldiers and kill them. thats really really really not the vibe you get at all looking at this stuff.
for example just look at how south carolina left + how they went about that. of course there was complications + that was the start of the war but clearly they didnt think they were starting a war when they said they were leaving. am i supposed to just think they missed the memo
like, obviously if they thought that leaving was legal grounds for the other states to invade and kill them and that that was what they agreed to when jointing the US they wouldnt have left in the exact way that they did. in fact it kind of seems like no one thought that at all.
so am i just missing something or what. obviously this isnt my domain of expertise but after a while going over all this stuff the idea that states were allowed to leave is just kind of floating there. other states talked about leaving and it was just a thing. ...right?
because if thats the case uh wouldnt that kind of mean that prior to the civil war the union was [between] the states as sovereign entities + that after, the federal government basically took their sovereignty away without them agreeing to that haha i sure hope that isnt it right
actually oddly enough this all started as a detour in my eternal quest to get at the essence and nature of american christianity but now im wondering if it actually is a detour.
jeez i sure hope there are no theological implications here like the american system starting from the point of sovereign individuals transferring aspects of that sovereignty to the states who were then sovereign because of that and then all this happening, guess we’ll find out

slightly cheesy evangelical programing actually goes super hard sometimes. you drop into a show and its like "a firefighter was recently convicted of negligence for letting a family of 5 burn alive in their home.

actually

thats you, when you fail to share the bible with others
he sat in his car listening to music with headphones on while the mother of five children screamed for help, agonized by the searing pain of the flames as her home crumbled to ashes around her. actually, this never happened. still you. we just made this story up. but the moral is
ive kind of told this story in pieces before but since im watching it again while working i will tell you about my relationship to such programs. theres something about it that really nails down something about american evangelical christianity for me.

did u know that when lincoln was elected, out of 4.68 million votes cast he only received 1.86 million votes. that means less than 40% of people in the country actually selected him as their choice to be president. apolitically, as a random historical datapoint, that is insane
btw there was a plant common to his area called white snakeroot where, if cows ate it, + u drank their milk, u could die. it was called milk sickness, thats how his mom died. we have a lot of raw milk guys here so i was wondering if that affected non pasteurized milk perception
i have a joke ive been waiting to drop hold up

since ive been posting cute drawings recently i feel obligated to flex a little esoterica. did you know you can pull off US highways and buy memorabilia that would be illegal to buy and sell in europe. people do not know about things like this. steiner said kali yuga ended btw.
its just sitting there. usually i think someones grandfather died or something and some young people are just unloading his stuff. thats really the only possible explanation for it. pretty cheap, too. relatively. hope you guys are having a good weekend.
theres a special subset of the weirdo american scholar archetype that would collect things, books, etc., that are illegal in other countries but legal here just to have them, because you can. gotta respect that on some level, although this type of person is no longer understood.
