Earlier this week, I posted a lengthy thread about the WI GOP's blistering attacks on democracy. It's gotten worse in the last few days. Now Republicans are threatening to jail mayors of WI cities. Thread (and—donate! wisdems.org/november) ⤵️
Michael Gableman, the far-right crackpot Stop the Stealer who is spending taxpayer $ to advance conspiracy theories (thanks to GOP Speaker Robin Vos) is now threatening to jail the mayors of Madison and Milwaukee if they won't agree to private interviews jsonline.com/story/news/pol…
It's essentially political intimidation, because Gableman's legal case is, per the Green Bay mayor's lawyer, "lacking in legal merit and built upon a gross distortion of the relevant facts"—to the degree that the mayor intends to file a motion for sanctions.
The Racine County Sheriff conducted his own "investigation" that led to his recommendation of felony charges for Wisconsin election commissioners. This new threat to jail mayors furthers an extremely disturbing trend of criminalization of democracy.
Meanwhile, in an ironic about-face, Wisconsin Republicans—who years ago stripped all power from Wisconsin's Secretary of State—are now running a candidate who wants to restore that power. Not hard to see why: so it can be used to overturn election results. wisconsinexaminer.com/2021/12/02/gop…

Democracy in Wisconsin is under brutal assault with the GOP pushing to charge members of our bipartisan election commission with felonies. We’re fighting back—and the stakes couldn't be higher. Help us hit our Nov goal of 101 new monthly donors by midnight:wisdems.org/november
Republicans are trying to seize control from our state’s election commission and put the GOP-dominated Wisconsin state legislature in charge of elections. This would open a direct path to Republican politicians overturning election results they don’t like.
Republican Speaker Robin Vos says that most of the members of Wisconsin's bipartisan Elections Commission should “probably” face criminal charges.
With @GovEvers’s veto, the Republican attempt to re-gerrymander our state and thwart our democracy has slammed into a brick wall. Governor Tony Evers has demonstrated once more that he is the last line of defense against anti-democratic attacks. 1/
Republican legislators in Wisconsin have lost sight of how a democracy works—voters are supposed to choose their elected officials, not the other way around.
The process of drawing legislative maps should be fair, transparent, and nonpartisan, but as we’ve seen, Republicans will stop at nothing to hold onto power.
DEMS: If we want to win, we’ve got to show up. So today I’m asking you to join me in supporting the Brown County Democratic Party, which is doing amazing things in Wisconsin’s biggest swing county. Support @BrownWIDems here & read on: secure.actblue.com/donate/wisdems…
Brown County is Wisconsin’s fourth biggest county (after Milwaukee, Dane, and Waukesha), and Green Bay is Wisconsin’s third largest city. In 2020, Brown County turned out 12,129 more Dem votes than in 2016—which is more than half of Biden’s statewide margin of victory.
How did Brown County Dems jump their turnout by 23%(!) in 2020? Organizing. Communicating with voters. A massive team effort. Which is what you’d imagine from the home of the Green Bay Packers.
Dems: This moment is a test. And the answer is to ORGANIZE. @WisDems have a massive push to contact 100k voters by 11/8—exactly 1 year from the midterms—& add 200 new monthly donors. With VA in the rearview, read & amplify my #1Year2Win thread, & chip in: wisdems.org/1year2win
While national attention was on Virginia on Tuesday night, we had good news here in Wisconsin: The GOP machine (and @RebeccaforReal) went all-in on divisive school board recall campaigns… and fell flat on its face on election day.
We knew there would be challenges. We know Wisconsin elections are always close. 2022 will be no different. That’s exactly why, in Wisconsin, we’ve been obsessively prepping for a tough fight.
