Consistency never was my strongpoint.

I was told over and over again that being consistent was the key to success for everything in life.

I understood this, but I could never follow through.

Here is how I overcame this problem...

I'll spoil the surprise right off the bat.

I overcame this problem through my fitness journey.

Not ironic since periodization is prevalent in athletics.

I stayed the course, lost 13 pounds of fat in 7 months whilst gaining muscle & improving my cardio conditioning. Image
Once I tasted the power of consistency through my fitness journey, it instantly clicked that I needed to use this power in all aspects of my life.

Periodization is a powerful tool.

Periodization was and will continue to be my catalyst.

So what is it exactly? 👇
Periodization is a concept where you live your life in increments, or small chunks.

In other words, you break down your year into 4 weeks, 6 weeks, 8 weeks, or 12 week periods.

In other words, with periodization, you don't have to worry about the entire year.

It's far too long of a time period for us to process effectively.

Instead, you get smaller experimental chunks of life that also happen to give you a greater sense of urgency.
All you have to do is commit to a 12 week long experiment.

Focus in, concentrate on the goal at hand, and overload on it.

You can do this with anything.

For me, it was fitness. Image
So, how can you set this up for yourself?

First you need to have an underlying goal.

i.e become an illustrator, run a 10k, read 20 books, etc.

What is the vision you have of yourself in 12 weeks time? Image
Once you've nailed down your vision, you can break it down into weekly increments.

What do you need to do to have a great 12 weeks of life, intentionally progressing towards this goal or vision?

Break it down into weekly accomplishments you need to achieve to get you there.
Alright alright.

You now have weekly goals that, in aggregate, will take you to your north star: the vision you have of yourself in 12 weeks.

We need to break this down further.

How can you break down your weekly goals into daily actions? Image
Organize and focus on your weeks with daily actions.

These daily actions will accumulate and transform you to achieve your weekly goals.

Your weekly goals will, in aggregate, transform you into your 12-week vision.

Cool, right?
Once this is set up, and you're happy & confident with what you've come up with...

You will need to measure your progress.

Psychologically, we tend to think we are more productive than we actually are.

For me, I had to weigh in every morning and track my macros every day. Image
One key point....be sure to commit.

I'm guilty of it;

It's more fun to plan out things than it actually is to execute on them.

So we are tempted to stop what we are doing & plan something new.

Just stick with it; it's only a few weeks after all.
Last thing...

Real results usually have long lag periods.

Doing the correct things right now accumulates the results you want in the future.

"Results aren't the attainment of greatness, simply the confirmation of it."
You become great in the instant you choose to do the things you need to do in order to be great.

And so I end it here.

It's impossible to get to a destination when constantly changing directions.
