It’s popular #mdzs fanon that #LWJ played Inquiry for #WWX during the 13 years that he was dead. If you go by the novel, it’s unlikely since that’s not how Inquiry works. But it’s possible that LWJ played Evocation for WWX. Here’s a thread explaining why.
If you look in chapter 22 when Inquiry was first introduced, it mentions it’s used when the identity of the deceased in unknown. If LWJ wants to beckon WWX, this would not be the way since he knows the identity.
Instead, #MXTX gave us some interesting hints. Evocation, mentioned in Chapter 19, is the technique used to summon the deceased when you have a medium. The medium can be a corpse, a piece of a corpse, or an object beloved by the deceased.
These might sound familiar because if you recall in chapter 111, those were the 3 items LWJ was looking for when he went to burial mound after the first siege. When he couldn’t find any part of WWX’s remains and then he wanted Chenqing.
We all know LWJ hid bottles of Emperor’s Smile in his room. These are different from all the other objects LWJ collected. Every other object (flower, perfume pouch, bunnies) were items directly from WWX. So why did he have so many bottles of Emperor’s Smile?
Well in chapter 71, WWX told LWJ that Emperor’s Smile was the best and if he ever had the chance, he would go back to Gusu just to hide a bunch and drink them all at once.
In conclusion, it’s possible LWJ was using the Emperor’s Smile in his room as a medium for Evocation to summon WWX. Thank you for reading through all this!
Also, 问灵十三载,等一不归人, is from a famous line from a fanfic in the Chinese fandom that was written around 2017-2018. I heard it has since been deleted but here’s a link to a translation my friend created and posted on Ao3: archiveofourown.org/works/25737454
Actually, I guess LWJ could've been at burial mound after first siege playing Inquiry to ask about WWX but good luck sorting through all those spirits. I'm really just referring to the fanon that LWJ played Inquiry for 13 years.
