[Journey's End, a thread about War Games and DIY]

It's been clear for the last few weeks that War Games was going to be an important moment for @NXTCiampa and @JohnnyGargano, AKA DIY, one of the very best black-and-gold tag teams and rivalries.
And it's not just that there was a moment when they did their old tag team finisher, Meet in the Middle. So many other themes from across their five-year (!!) story came full circle at War Games.
Tommaso originally turned on Johnny in 2017 out of fury and fear that Johnny might replace him when he was out injured. The "this is my moment" line got repeated in every variation by both of them, thrown back and forth...
...Coming to rest at last with Tommaso's final version of it, handing the moment he stole back to Johnny just before the War Games match.
After his turn on Johnny, Tommaso went out with a knee injury, only to eventually come back in spectacular fashion, clubbing Johnny from behind with his crutch--for the first but far from only time...
...Finally finishing up with Johnny saving Tommaso with a crutch, and a wry acknowledgement of the past, putting it to rest.
And at the end of War Games, Johnny sees Tommaso getting ready to attack, and chooses to grab Hayes and hold him in place so Tommaso can strike. Which is an echo of their very first singles match in 2016, in the Cruiserweight Classic, just as they started to be a tag team.
That match ended when Tommaso couldn't bring himself to deliver that knee-strike to his dazed friend. Johnny won the match, but that moment of mercy cemented their partnership.
This time Johnny chooses to take the knee Tommaso spared him from way back in 2016, and it all comes full circle at the end, with Johnny sacrificing for friendship just like Tommaso did then.
In a time where youth and ambition didn't have the edge, maybe that would have given them the victory. But Candice reminds us that one thing that's more precious and more rare than victories in wrestling, is the chance at closure.

It's always about the journey.

The Architect, a thread.

After the events of WrestleMania 40, many people remember Seth telling Cody he'll be his shield back in February, which is exactly what happened. But there's another line in that promo that explains even more about his actions at WrestleMania.
For Roman Reigns, there are always two traumas that form the base of his fractured soul. One is his disastrous Royal Rumble win in 2015. The other is, of course, Seth Rollins betraying the Shield.
That betrayal is Roman's constant recurring nightmare, a moment he's never been able to find his way out of. Part of why he hated Sami so much was that Sami put him back into that helpless moment: the steel at his shoulder blades, the fall forward.

"From a Moral Standpoint": A thread about WarGames and Sami Zayn's 2022 Road to Redemption.
When Sami said this right after WrestleMania, I was immediately on high alert. Because Sami Zayn seeking respect and redemption is the cornerstone of his character, and the basis of his 2014 NXT story arc.
Back in 2014, after some humiliating defeats, Sami Zayn embarked on what he called his Road to Redemption, where he swore he would win everyone’s respect and the NXT title.

[Thread] PWG DDT4, Jan. 12 2013. Match 2 for Kevin and El Generico in their desperate bid to become PWG tag champions again, against Future Shock--Adam Cole and Kyle O'Reilly.

All of their matches link into one story; I detailed the first match here:
Last match, Kevin and Generico ALMOST got along by the end. But Kevin still won't even look at his former friend. He's more focused on attacking Adam Cole, who took the world championship off him and is taunting him with it now.
Please take a moment to enjoy Adam Cole's frenzied "NOT AGAIN!" as his doom approaches.

When Sami Zayn defends his Intercontinental championship against Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania, he's working at a disadvantage, because his moveset has been pared down to a sliver.

This thread is a field guide to some of Sami Zayn's signature moves, and a chronicle of their loss.
1. Barricade Moonsault: a move made more possible by the main roster's wider barricades, it's a reckless yet defensive move, turning his opponents' attempted whip against them.
Most importantly, it throws him almost directly into the fans' laps, shattering the distance between them.
