When you tweet demanding that Merrick Garland perp march Trump you do Trump's work for him. That includes you, @JoyAnnReid
"Lock her up" is a slogan that is destructive to democracy and the rule of law. It criminalizes politics. It is evil.
So don't do it from our side
I think people want Merrick Garland to act like that trash Ken Starr and assign his version of Kavanaugh to leak grand jury testimony to the press. That's not how it is supposed to work.
DOJ investigations are supposed to be confidential until they file charges.
I don't want traitors like Oliver North to walk because of a technicality. I don't want Trump to get away with it because the investigation was rushed or the prosecutors cut corners. Make it perfect and wrap it up with a bow so it sticks.
Can you imagine how empowering it would be for Trump to be acquitted because the prosecution rushed and bowed to public pressure?
I want him to prosecuted and convicted, but I want it done right so it sticks.
I also want to you do-something-tweeters to think about what you want. You want another Comey speaking out of turn and affecting an election. You want another Ken Starr fapping over his garbage can with DC reporters. You want another Durham making ridiculous indictments for show
You want a retributive, partisan Justice Department that will weaponize itself on behalf of whoever is in the White House. You want people prosecuted for their beliefs, rather than their acts.
Let this be investigated and only those charges that are appropriate be made.
You cannot fight authoritarianism with your own authoritarianism

I think one thing people fail to understand about the racist backlash to VP Harris is that, like Obama, she is white people's greatest fear incarnate. It's not Black people, it's Black Excellence. They aren't scared of Terrence and Diamond & Silk. They are scared of excellence.
Even Ben Carson, a neurosurgeon for Pete's sake, plays the role of a sort-of absent-minded professor bumbling his way on the campaign trail, forgetting his suitcase, etc. Is he really only smart in one thing or does he understand that he needs to abase himself for white votes?
I think Rs, in general, don't like their politicians to be very smart. They want to be able to look down on them a bit. I think Trump's most inane moments are deliberate, to encourage the fond "that's my guy" smile at his bumbling. Their hatred of Democratic candidates is always
I keep thinking about David Brooks recent column pretending that the white supremacy of today's GOP was not present in the past (Reagan) and looked to see how he responded to the Neshoba County Fair states' rights speech. He said calling it racist was a "slur" and "distortion."
I am sick of the David Brooks Republicans pretending that their party didn't choose white supremacy to hold the White House in 1877. Read about the Lily Whites who demanded the purge of the Black and Tans.
We all know that the Democratic party was entwined with the Klan until the political realignment that happened from 1930 to 1965, but the GOP dumped Black people in 1877 and purged Black delegates in the 20s. The pretense that their white supremacy is new is a lie
For Black Americans there was a long exile of sorts from then of Reconstruction to the 1930s when no party wanted them. And the period from the 30s to the Voting Rights Act was shameful too. And now the GOP wants to go back to when they thought it was great
Has anyone watched "The School of Chocolate" on Netflix? It is such a different competition show. No one is eliminated. The bottom two get remedial instruction from the chef/teacher. I have never seen such a kind teacher who cares so much about building up every student.
People should watch just to learn how to be a good person. There is one person who seems a bit negative, but she's someone who would be beloved in the usual cutthroat competition food shows.
Remember polite and quiet chefs were doubted as not having the whatever to run a kitchen on Top Chef. MasterChef is flat out abuse. Her big sin was voting for herself, though really, if you can't vote for yourself, you don't belong in the game.
So I am reading this book that endeavors to explain the rising fury on the right that led to Trump and J6. Somehow racism is barely mentioned. The word racism appears 17 times in 21 chapters of 480 page book
And in the last chapter, there was this charming little bit about how making racist, sexist, and homophobic jokes is no longer accepted but people can still make classist jokes.
This, after the research on Trump voters being more affluent than Clinton or Biden voters.
So one of my organizing mentors likes to tell a story about door-knocking in the South back in the early 70s. At the door was a white woman who opened the conversation with a phrase about how glad he wasn't one of the [racist epithet] registering voters. He started to back away
but she added, "but if you're here to talk about that company polluting our drinking water, I have coffee and we can talk." She became an active volunteer and was integral to their organizing to clean up some mess. He told this story many times to argue against excluding white
racists who will be changed by working with Black people on a shared purpose (as he claims this woman was.)
So, one day I asked him, how many Black people did not join because that woman was a leader?
