American Alliance for Medical Freedom press conference in Easton
Kelly Williams, a nurse, gave the introduction, said focus was on the impact the vaccine mandate for health care workers has on patients and families.
Lynnette Keefe is sharing the story about the poor care her husband received when he went to an ER with COVID.
Keefe says travel nurses being brought in to bridge the gap get paid 5x the amount of the rest of the staff.
“Is low staffing going to effect the treatment of your loved ones? Absolutely.”
“The trade is life,” Keefe said to illustrate the choice as she sees it between enforcing a mandate vs proper staffing.
“Is freedom good?” Dr. James Kelly asks. “Free men have rights.”
“This is just the tip of the iceberg,” said Kelly, who said it is about more than a shot, it’s about somebody else telling you what to do.
“These were last year’s heroes, now they are scapegoats.”
Dan Cox is speaking, relating a story about his in-laws assisting a local woman.
Cox said it took 9 hours at a local hospital for the woman to be treated for a broken hip.
He points out the amount of money the Maryland legislature has spent, and that other states are calling up National Guard troops to cover shortfalls.
Cox said the Constitution is more than just something you hang on the wall, and the Maryland Constitution includes additional protection for property being taken only with due process. He said jobs fall under that category.
ER Nurse Steve Pringle speaking now. “We cannot provide the quality of care we need to.”
Pringle said the patient backup is evident. Nurse workload is increased due to the requirement they clean in lieu of adequate housekeeping staff.
“We were heroes—what happened?” Pringle asked. He said he feels disrespected and is concerned about where new nurse will be sourced from.
“It’s not a good plan, we need to bring back the nurses that left,” he said.
Kelly said that the mandate forced out conscientious health care workers, a trait he said is crucial for good medical care.
An audience member says the mandate adversely effect other fields, says his wife was fired for not taking vaccine.
“Whether you get the vaccine is a personal choice,” he said.
Dr. Kelly said that reviews of religious exemption don’t mean that a person had rights because it is subject to the preference of the reviewer.
One woman in the audience said through tears that her father is currently on a ventilator in Laurel, DE, because Easton did not admit him.
Cox, who said he survived COVID twice, said he took Ivermectin from Florida during one of his illnesses. He criticized Gov. Hogan for restrictions on the use of the drug.
Cox encouraged attendees to contact local District 37 State Senator Addie Eckardt, who sits on the state vaccine workgroup.
Coc said parental rights are guaranteed, and he encouraged people to make their perspective known to the state vaccine workgroup.
“This is coming, and it’s coming fast,” said Cox, unless people “professionally and firmly make their voices heard.”
Amidst extended conversation about the efficacy of vaccines, side effects, and the legal status of the FDA authorization, Cox said he has gone up against Big Pharma as a litigator. He said he has found local legal action to be effective.
Del. Johnny Mautz is speaking.
He said the mandate issue has not received enough scrutiny, he said adequate conversation in the public sphere has not been allowed to take place.
