Let me explain the logistical nightmare it would be to look for vaccine-related deaths in real time:

Why am I covering this?

People think it's easy and I want to address it once and for all.

Retrospective studies can feasibly study this.

Let's begin

🧵THREAD🧵
1) Information Problem

If a patient doesn't tell you when they got the vaccine, you will never know.

Patients often forget dates and have a warped perception of time.

Maybe they got the shot a month ago, maybe it was 2 weeks ago, who knows.
Maybe the patient forgets to offer that information entirely and the physician forgets to ask.

"You can check the registry"

This assumes the registry is always working, everyone is updated, and there is someone who has time to sit down and do that.
Digging through paperwork like that is a low-level skill. You don't need a physician to do it.

With the generous unemployment benefits right now, low level skill is severely lacking.

So who would look for this information? Nobody
2) Timeframe Unknown

We have no idea what time frame to look out for vaccine reactions.

Maybe we need to look for a day, a week, a month, a year, 10 years.

Reasonable people disagree on this.
3) Reactions Unknown

We do not know which reactions to look for.

What are the symptoms of a vaccine adverse reaction in a new vaccine?

Yes, myocarditis is possible. But what else?

You can't look for something when you don't know what you're looking for.
4) Causality

Is the 65-year-old obese and unhealthy man's stroke caused by the vaccine they got last week, or 65 years of unhealthy living?

There is no good way to differentiate.

If you blame the vaccine, you may overestimate. Blame his diet, may underestimate.
5) Politics

If you openly look for vaccine adverse events you will almost certainly get heat from administration.

They don't want that type of attention, understandably so.

The accreditation and credentialing agencies have a lot of power.
So, what's the alternative?

Retrospective studies can look for a correlation.

It is not perfect. It is not even a very good option. But it is the reality.

There is no other way to do this type of analysis, especially not prospectively.
