One of the things I learned in law school is that you can't trust ANYONE to read original documents (cases, statutes, regulations) etc., and give a reasonable account of what they say. You have to read stuff. And so ... let's read the House's referral of Mark Meadows for contempt
The Number One Question I'd like some insight into is what (if anything) the Jan6 Committee is willing to reveal about the connections between political operatives and violent mobsters
The report is here if you want to check it out for yourself. docs.house.gov/meetings/IJ/IJ…
So far NOTHING that has leaked out of the committee (or those with knowledge) directly addresses the connection between violent extremists and rioters and Trumpists and Trump aligned political animals. That story is coming soon to a TV near you.
If you dig this kind of thing, I always appreciate a follow. I am not without my biases, but I am as honest an account as I know how to be and I try to spread a little truth and sanity and goodness in the twitters.
A bit of background on Meadows: he was Trump's Chief of Staff (so he KNOWS). He provided some documents, but then refused to testify before the commitee and provide any more documents.
Here's one thing I can tell you for certain. If Mark Meadows has the "smoking gun" in his emails that proves his criminality - he did not voluntarily produce it. Also, it seems likely there was an effort NOT to refer to violence in writing. So testimony is crucial.
The Jan6C identifies 3 significant areas in which Meadow's testimony was needed: 1) testimony about produced documents; 2) testimony about comms with Jan6 Organizers; 3) MM's involvement in trying to "find" votes in GA.
From MM's perspective, each of these represents huge danger, either from testifying and committing perjury, or in the case of GA, testifying truthfully and admitting to a felony.
None of those three directly implicates MM's knowledge of the ties between Trumpists and violence, however. Mark Meadows KNOWS these ties, however, as well as the efforts to cover up those ties.
The Jan6C also outright accuses MM of hiding/deleting/failing to archive government documents.
Destruction of documents to impeded a congressional investigation is a felony.
Uh oh, Mark, Jan6C is ALSO interested in your actions to subvert the DOJ. Ooops.
Ahh, at last ... a hint about MM's direct knowledge of possible violence. Mark was in contact with a rally organizer that "may" have expressed "safety concerns." Lolz.
The Jan6C cites this article for support that Meadows may have been contacted about violence ... but you can be absolutely, positively, stone-cold-lock certain that J6C knows much more about this now than the authors. propublica.org/article/new-de…
As I write this, I am reminded of Raskin's comments on a "fine-grained picture" of what they were up to. Meadows is f'd.
I do not understand why Trump is letting Meadows blow in the wind ... but he is
The J6C points out that Meadows was present for the decision not to issue a statement telling rioters to stand down. Meadows himself produced a message from a WH employee warning him people would die if he didn't condemn it.
Meadows was there for the conversations about whether/when to deploy National Guard.
The J6C has THIRTEEN bullet points of additional area they want MM's testimony. 2 have been widely reported. All deserve attention. Let's look.
NEW: Meadows received an email from a J6 rally organizer saying "Things have gotten crazy and I desperately need some attention."
Meadows sent (and produced which almost certainly means there's worse) an email stating that the National Guard would protect "pro Trump people". This raises a thousand questions about where this info came from and whether other's were in on this.
The J6C is intentionally vague here about who was in on these communications - but there was clearly a conspiracy to use false info to overturn the election.
Speaking of conspiracies, the Trump campaign was in on it.
Meadows wasn't just a lackey ... he was actively engaged in trying to put together a team to subvert the most powerful democracy in the history of the world. F U Mark.
Speaking of conspiracies, it involves Trump, Meadows and members of congress.
Sitting at the height of power, Mark Meadows used a personal email account to do Trump's bidding in GA, and hence committed a felony. Mark ... the law is coming for you.
I don't know if it's a crime to engage in a conspiracy to use USG resources to conduct a hoax on US voters, but Mark Meadows is about to find out.
I don't know if it is a crime to engage in seditious conspiracy with the My Pillow guy at the White House, but Mark Meadows about to find out.
I don't know if it's a crime to participate in a conspiracy to get a the Vice President of the United States to engage in seditious conspiracy and treason, but Mark Meadows about to find out.
Super-smart guy meadows tried to cover his comms with Jan6 Organizers by using his other cell phone.
The J6C hasn't even bothered to challenge MM's specious assertions of executive privilege (that Trump hasn't asserted and Biden has waived), but it does note that MM waived that privilege by writing a stupid book.
That's the end of the J6C Bullet Points on Meadows. It b a r e l y touches on Meadow's knowledge of the violence, but you can be sure that the committee knows much more and if Meadows eventually testifies ...it's gonna be F I R E
Sadly, the next 3 pages of the report are just reciting the factual predicate for his being held in contempt. I would have liked a few more details. But it will have to do. Go to jail, Mark. Rot their/they're/there/thayr, you treasonous bastard. Dirk out.

Real talk: most Americans don't have the faintest idea about what most Arabs believe about Israel of the West. Our Western framework and naivete is blinding. Here's a pretty good poll showing most support HAMAS's attack on Oct 7, 2023. gallup-international.com/survey-results…
Image
Most believe that the point of the attack was "to free Palestine." I would like to know more about what that means in the respondents'' minds, but, I am sure a substantial percent meaning eliminating Israel and displacing its population. Image
The West has dumped hundreds of millions of dollars into supporting the Palestinian Authority, in the hopes that will result in a stable partner to enter into a negotiated 2 state solution. Most Arabs trust HAMAS more than the PA. Image

First off, this is a federal district court reviewing a case that was originally filed in state court - Colorado - challenging Trump's eligibility to be on the ballot. Trump filed numerous motions to dismiss on a variety of technical grounds - all of which were considered.
The decision is issued after a five day trial in which all or most of the evidence that those seeking to disqualify Trump was admitted - and some excluded of the findings of the January 6th Commission. Image

Dear People Too Old To Have Grown Up On Tik Tok:

You have an incredibly important duty to democracy and the future. You are needed now. A THREAD.
Since October 7, I think practically all of us (old people, that is) have been stunned by the fact that seemingly out of nowhere young people world wide have rallied to the cause of Palestinians following the massacre of Jews in the West Bank.
I've seen many accounts like Professor Bernstein's here - stunned. You would have thought he would be aware, as a Professor, just like you'd think I would be aware as a the father of youngs (and one who really makes a point to try to listen to youngs).

17 days ago, Forbes and the Wall Street Journal reported that Epstein, Peter Thiel and Thomas Barrack (and possibly other Trump supporters) all met with the RU Ambassador to the UN. THERE HAS NOT BEEN A SINGLE FOLLOW UP REPORT ANYWHERE. forbes.com/sites/saradorn…
This is a hugely important story, given that it yet another connection between the Russians and the Trump campaign that was missed by Mueller and despite being recent front page news, seemingly entirely unknown to the american public.
It is also hugely important given that right wing circles constantly suggest that Epstein was suicided to protect democrats. Thomas Barrack was Kushner/Trump's illegal foreign policy strongman (he was acquitted, but not because he didn't do it).
