Thread (1/9).
After neglecting their own infrastructure for decades and burning down CA communities and forests, utilities want to restrict rooftop solar & make us subsidize their mess.
Here's what they're doing (3 parts): 1) $57 per month rooftop solar penalty fee The more panels, the larger the fee. Includes apartments, new homes built with solar per state mandate, and batteries. The fee would be the largest in the U.S. (2/9)
2) 80% cut to the credit for sharing surplus solar energy. Credit would drop from an average of $0.25 /kWh to 5 cents. This cut happens immediately; Solar Rights Alliance predicts it will end the solar market. (3/9)
3) Rolls back protections for existing solar users. Existing users are protected from changes to net metering rules for 20 years from the date their system turned on. The CPUC wants to reduce that to 15 years, and eliminate it altogether if you accept their battery rebate. (4/9)
This is a terrible deal for working and middle class Californians, regardless of income. CPUC's decision (despite their low-income subsidy) will raise the cost even for people who ALREADY STRUGGLE TO PAY THEIR UTILITY BILLS. (5/9)
Here's what to do:
1)Call @CAgovernor's office NOW - here's a form that will connect you (and help track the number of calls):
4) Don't get discouraged keep pushing. Over 120,000 people signed a public comment to stop this decision. Write a letter to the editor of your local paper. Talk to anyone you know who has or is thinking about rooftop solar. Let's save rooftop solar and our climate. (9/9)
