Setting up a burner wallet to mint, then to move to a hardware wallet became a real cost. The cost of gwei may secure the network but it also shifts the cost of personal security to the user to adopt best practices.
Forcing users to make tough choices around security 5/n
The common ETH rebuttal is that once L2 scaling and merge that this will drive costs down significantly. I often used this position.
However, cost and time to transfer NFTs from main chain across a bridge and back is another point of friction for mass adoption. 6/n
NFTs are crypto's main adoption use case. Making it seamless, easy and friction must be a priority for all builders.
Currently,ETH has more barriers than onramps for the average person and mass adoption. That is indisputable in my opinion. 7/n
UX matters.@MetaMask for NFTs is painful to use. A NFT wallet that doesn't display NFTs without a 3rd party seems poor UX to me. It's a meme now, how bad it is.
I've not found a user. Not a single one. That has used @phantom vs @MetaMask and said Metamask is better. Zero. 8/n
So why hasn't Solana NFT adoptions accelerated with its advantages on UX and cost alone.
The same reason when I was a ETH Defi user I looked down on BSC projects as low grade and scammy and never used it.
What BSC was to Defi, SOL is to NFTs to ETH.
Is this fair? 9/n
In some ways, yes. Ratio of rugs, low effort and copy pasta projects on SOL are high. This is why supporting these projects are a bad look. STOP
Are there scams and copy pasta on ETH? yes but not nearly the same rate.
It gives the illusion that SOL NFTs are a minefield. 10/n
What's missed in this bad reputation are the amazing artists, projects, developers and growing community in SOL NFTs.
This is no longer a secret now. The problems that plague ETH NFTS are solvable today with SOL. 11/n
When were deciding where to launch @PenguloveNFT and gear swapping, we couldn't do it on ETH.
Gwei costs would be limiting factor on people swapping attributes. We need it to be done fast and at minimal cost for our community. This is why we chose SOL. 12/n
We may be a small project for now but I use it as an illustration of decision making that each creator now has to make moving forward.
Which chain do you use to optimize for your use case and adoption? 13/n
Let's take 3 larger examples that arrived to the same conclusion.
#1 @alexisohanian launched a $100 million joint venture with Solana Ventures to invest for Web3 on Solana. 14/n
For the new followers, Pengu used to write long threads to share insights into my thinking. I've not recently due to the time constraints to do so but felt this was an important topic to shed light as I've now publicly bought 3,169 $SOL into $BONK in 3 weeks
This is my thesis on WHY $BONK will outperform $SOL
But 1st- I'm a core contributor of $BONK and can directly benefit if number go up. I trade around my positions and can sell at any time. All my info is for entertainment purposes only. This is NFA. You should NOT take investment advice on twitter. I'm just a Pengu online
Before this comes across, I'm bearish $SOL it's quite the opposite.
$SOL is the darling of this cycle and continue to believe this is true. Pengu was betting heavily when people were scared to deploy capital into $SOL and accumulated position in the bear
Claim's of Solana's successor already declared auto-Matic winner.
Let's take a deeper dive in comparing the two chains.
It's time for a Pengu 🧵
As a bit of background, I was a power user of Polygon when defi farming. There were rich reward incentives w/ Matic and used AAVE, Sushi and Curve there.
It was cheaper, faster and smoother experience than defi farming on ETH L1. (using an ETH pengu for emphasis)
Business Development (BD) team at Polygon has been crushing it w/ their web2 client wins. With each new big brand they get in partnership, easier the next one is.
This reduces career risk for web3 initiatives. There used to be a business saying, no one gets fired for buying IBM
We have an intimate tight knit community. There were many events but we often organically chose to spend time together. We're a small project but rolled deep and had big presence where we went.
Before I fade away for the weekend, have been asked my thoughts on the recent @MagicEden announcement on optional royalties.
My initial thoughts... they may surprise you.
First couple disclosures - I have no financial investment in ME. I have investments in competitive products/exchanges to them. Arguably better for me financially to see them continue to lose share.
Second - I feel they've handled themselves with community poorly and could invest in a seasoned IR/ PR / crisis management team or external firm. They've had some large public mistakes.
This situation was no different from what I hear about their spaces.
On the week of the @solBOOGLE FINAL auction #100 and the high level of interest we received, sharing some thoughts on the invitation to join the premier network, luxury brand and exclusive community on Solana.
A mega 🧵 on history, price, journey and future of BOOGLE
But 1st- this is not a paid tweet. I own my own bags and directly benefit from number go up. I trade around my positions and can sell at any time. All my info is for entertainment purposes only. This is NFA. You should NOT take investment advice on twitter. I am a Pengu online
I size my trades based on my portfolio and risk tolerance. Do not copy pasta. You shouldn't invest more than you can afford to lose. I am often wrong and will be again. We're in a bear market, the key is to survive. No FOMO, make risk adjusted bets and capital preservation
