eyes, again aimed at this mystery man who’s reaction the camera hasn’t been able to catch. oikawa, whose only non-designer outfit is the one he wears during games, clad in a worn-out tee with uc irvine’s logo on it. oikawa, who only dines in the finest of restaurants, grinning

from cheek to cheek at the 205 peso packet of milk break from the convenience store. oikawa, who, despite his heartthrob status, is only ever seen hanging out with his teammates or trainers, now in the company of someone that’s neither, someone that seems to be /more/ even though

nobody would ever think it possible for this workaholic to create such bonds outside of his life of volleyball. so, questions are raised. search words like “oikawa”, “happy” and “mystery man” trend in various platforms, theories circulate. “just a friend” and “who looks at their

friend like that???” and “the pictures were blurry how did you make out how he was looking?????” — all these arguments leading to no answers. until oikawa provides it himself: a picture on his instagram, same tee, same guy, same smile but a dozen times more clear. the caption

reads “my best friend missed me so he visited~”, with the first reply being from the person tagged in the photo — “you literally sent me the ticket and begged me to come”.

for the entirety of the week that follows, more pictures are seen of the two, some from oikawa himself,

and most others from the paparazzi, who, in light of all the interest, are more determined to get to an answer than ever. each picture is like the one preceding it, reaffirmation of the this new emotion pouring out of oikawa tooru.

“he’s in love.”

“he’s done for.”

“he didn’t even look this happy when san juan won the golden cup.”

and eventually, the chatter dissipates. the pictures cease. oikawa seems to go back to his usual lifestyle.

nobody questions it anymore. they don’t feel the need to. even without it being addressed, they can

tell: oikawa tooru has someone special. someone so special, that it washes his entire demeanor with a brightness that wasn’t previously there — a smirk that softens into a half smile, outfits that incorporate more humble pieces, such as a godzilla phone case or american college

merchandise. he’s seen going grocery shopping more often, and his instagram feed sports more homemade dishes than ones from michelin star restaurants. almost paradoxically, it’s like he weaves in bits and pieces of familiarity into the life he’s already used to. but nobody

ponders over it for long. they’ve accepted that there’s a new normal for their resident heartthrob. they’ll never know the exact identity of the man that seems to be the cause of this change, but they definitely know that oikawa is waiting for them to meet again.
