I quit my job a few weeks ago with little to no experience to pursue a web3 career with nothing lined up.

tldr; it worked.

Today, I began my first day as a blockchain analyst @coinbase.

Here’s how:

A guide to making that web2 ➡️ #WEB3 jump as seamless as possible.

🧵
(1/11) Understand the business context and macro landscape of the space you want to work in.

Interviewers can smell faux passion. Create a robust understanding for yourself of what this space has to offer and why you care about it.

Why do YOU want to work in web3?
(2/11) Begin with the fundamentals. Understand the basics inside and out. Be able to understand and explain to a five year old key concepts like:

What is a blockchain?
How does Ethereum work?
What is a smart contract?
Why is bitcoin important?

Set your base and build it strong.
(2/11 Cont.)
Below are some helpful resources to get you started:

- (Blockchain)
- (Blockchain Use Cases)
- (ETH Guide)
- (Smart Contracts)
- (BTC Explained)
(3/11) Focus on gaining industry specific knowledge. As a security professional, my focus was on learning blockchain security.

Some great starting points for any industry are:

bloomtech.com/courses/web3 (coming soon)
web3.career/learn-web3
useweb3.xyz
(4/11) Apply your knowledge and start building your portfolio. Building is the best way to learn.

I highly highly recommend the following:

- buildspace.io by @_buildspace
- cryptozombies.io by @loomnetwork
- thirdweb.com by @thirdweb_ (no code)
(5/11) Once you build, understand how to break things. Breaking things down will help you solidify what you've learned from building. I'd recommend the following CTFs:

- ethernaut.openzeppelin.com (ETH)
- damnvulnerabledefi.xyz (ETH)
- workshop.neodyme.io (SOL)
(6/11) Apply in bulk and regardless of your experience or job requirements.

There is a huge shortage of experienced web3 talent.

You're already in high demand if you've served in a web2 role at a high level and are actively learning web3.
(7/11) Confidence. Confidence. Confidence

You'll feel imposter syndrome when interviewing.

Ignore it.

You've done your homework and are more than capable of thriving.

The majority of hires over the next few years will be looking to move into web3 just like you.
(8/11) Breathe. Relax. Make a cup of tea. This space isn't going away anytime soon. If life just won't let you make the jump right now, thats fine.

Start the process, learn, and actively engage with the community.

You'll have plenty of opportunities to jump when you're ready.
(9/11) Engage and be active within the community. Everyone here wants to see more web2 people convert to web3. You'll be surprised how far a simple dm or comment can get you.

In the same spirit, my inbox is always open if you ever need help making the jump to web3 :)
(10/11) Here is a list of folks I follow that I believe are consistently delivering valuable information:
@SuhailKakar
@dabit3
@saminacodes
@oliverjumpertz
@FarzaTV
@developer_dao
@marcelc63
@Mudit__Gupta
@Haezurath
@jacksondame
@aeyakovenko
@chriscantino
@jaimeschmidt
(11/11) Again, if you ever need help to make that web3 jump or even if you're just interested, my inbox as always open :)

This space rewards those who learn and keep learning.

Take the first step and things will come naturally if you're truly vested into building on web3.
Going live to talk about transitioning into web3 in a bit more detail. Should be easier than flicking through dms lol
