A source has informed me of the following regarding Teslas Giga Berlin factory:
• Giga Berlin has built about 240 Model Y’s so far, with another 25 or so planned to be built this week.
1/7
Some of the cars are for crash tests, weather toughness and watertightness stuff (for example in Norway) and some are for testing the recycling processes in the factory. Some of those already built are being used for internal transportation inside the factory.
2/7
• Giga Berlin's working on launching 3 new paint colors, the names of which i have now independently confirmed, and they are Deep Crimson Multi-coat, Abyss Blue Multi-coat and Mercury Silver Metallic. I've seen several images up close of the Deep Crimson & it's gorgeous.
3/7
• Giga Berlin will only ship Performance Model Y in black and white for now, and if paint goes well then other colors will follow.
4/7
• Tesla hopes to deliver its first Giga Berlin made cars to customers around mid January, but this depends on whether Germany gives them the necessary approvals in time, which is a big if.
5/7
• Going back to paint, The 3 new colors will have 8 total layers I’m told. The current higher end Tesla paints I believe are 5 or 6 layers total so the new colors will be getting up to a few additional coats, which will really make the colors pop and give them some great depth.
• Giga Berlin Model Y’s currently have a mix of 16v and 12v batteries so i’m not sure if they’ll launch with a mix or just 16v.
• Berlin will build 2170 packs in the beginning with structural version launching later in 2022.
• Model Y will launch with front & rear castings.
Finally, Giga Berlin is pretty much ready to rock, but is waiting for final approval. Once they do receive that final approval, I'm told Tesla could start pumping out cars in as little as 2 weeks.
Everything I've seen, Giga Berlin is truly a next-gen factory. It's incredible.
CORRECTION: Miscommunication with my source regarding 12v battery. All Giga Berlin Y's will have the 12v Li-Ion battery, which is actually 15.5v. There will be no 12v lead-acid batteries.

NEWS: SpaceX is protesting Virginia’s $613M plan to expand high-speed internet access, accusing the state of deliberately denying a larger slice of the subsidies to @Starlink.
Starlink will receive just $3.2M in funding or what amounts to about $584 per site —a sharp contrast from the more expensive, but faster fiber installations that can cost around $6,000 to $8,000 per site. The state chose Starlink for just 5,579 of the total 133,000 locations slated for subsidized broadband installations.
The letter from SpaceX reveals the company wanted “to serve virtually every BEAD-eligible household in Virginia with high-speed broadband for $60 million dollars, available to Virginians immediately."
“Instead, Virginia proposes to spend $613 million dollars for connectivity that will be deployed at some point within the next four years, if ever, resulting in taxpayers overspending for connectivity in Virginia by ten times the necessary amount,” SpaceX added.
Motortrend has released some up close photos of Waymo's 6th-generation Robotaxi hardware, which is used on an all-electric RT van from Chinese EV company Zeekr.
The van has 10 tiny 3" windshield wipers to clean all the sensors. Waymo confirmed that all the vehicle’s wiper wash spray nozzles draw from a single central reservoir, indicating some complicated ducting beneath the skin to reach the cameras.
Waymo: "Our new sensor suite is optimized for greater performance at a significantly reduced cost, without compromising safety. It provides the Waymo Driver with overlapping fields of view, all around the vehicle, up to 500 meters away, day and night, and in a range of weather conditions."
Waymo also told Motortrend: “Supporting each of our sensors are preventive measures—from coatings and heaters to wipers and sprayers—to keep our sensors clean and the Waymo on the road in some of the harshest conditions. We have designed a compressive automated onboard cleaning system, along with a robust cleaning policy that detects and dictates when and how to clean the sensors and under what conditions, all without human intervention.”
The company has been testing this sixth generation hardware and the new van on public roads for over a year. The Zeekr RT van is produced exclusively for Waymo.
