A source has informed me of the following regarding Teslas Giga Berlin factory:

• Giga Berlin has built about 240 Model Y’s so far, with another 25 or so planned to be built this week.

1/7
Some of the cars are for crash tests, weather toughness and watertightness stuff (for example in Norway) and some are for testing the recycling processes in the factory. Some of those already built are being used for internal transportation inside the factory.

2/7
• Giga Berlin's working on launching 3 new paint colors, the names of which i have now independently confirmed, and they are Deep Crimson Multi-coat, Abyss Blue Multi-coat and Mercury Silver Metallic. I've seen several images up close of the Deep Crimson & it's gorgeous.

3/7
• Giga Berlin will only ship Performance Model Y in black and white for now, and if paint goes well then other colors will follow.

4/7
• Tesla hopes to deliver its first Giga Berlin made cars to customers around mid January, but this depends on whether Germany gives them the necessary approvals in time, which is a big if.

5/7
• Going back to paint, The 3 new colors will have 8 total layers I’m told. The current higher end Tesla paints I believe are 5 or 6 layers total so the new colors will be getting up to a few additional coats, which will really make the colors pop and give them some great depth.
• Giga Berlin Model Y’s currently have a mix of 16v and 12v batteries so i’m not sure if they’ll launch with a mix or just 16v.
• Berlin will build 2170 packs in the beginning with structural version launching later in 2022.
• Model Y will launch with front & rear castings.
Finally, Giga Berlin is pretty much ready to rock, but is waiting for final approval. Once they do receive that final approval, I'm told Tesla could start pumping out cars in as little as 2 weeks.

Everything I've seen, Giga Berlin is truly a next-gen factory. It's incredible.
CORRECTION: Miscommunication with my source regarding 12v battery. All Giga Berlin Y's will have the 12v Li-Ion battery, which is actually 15.5v. There will be no 12v lead-acid batteries. Image

NEWS: @elonmusk says the Starship pad damage is quite small and will be repaired quickly. He added the vehicle structural margins appeared to be better than expected.

"From a pad and rocket standpoint, we are probably ready to relaunch in 6-8 weeks." Image
Elon says at liftoff there were 3 engines SpaceX chose not to start. "The system didn't think they were healthy enough to launch with."
SpaceX did not see obvious evidence of the "rock tornado" damaging engines or heat shields. For the next flight, Starship will take off faster. Engines on booster 9 are newer, more consistent and more reliable compared to booster 7.

BREAKING: Magnis Energy directly reached out to me & confirmed they have signed an offtake deal with @Tesla to supply a minimum of 17,500 tonnes per annum of active anode battery material beginning in February 2025 for a minimum term of 3 years at a fixed price.

1/4
The material will come from Magnis’s proposed US production plant. The agreement contains an option for Tesla to increase up to 35,000 tpa. The agreement is conditional on Magnis securing a final location for its commercial AAM facility by 30 June 2023, etc.

Offtake definiton: An offtake agreement is an arrangement between a producer & buyer to purchase or sell portions of the producer's upcoming goods. It's normally negotiated before the construction of a factory or facility to secure a market & revenue stream for its future output.

NEWS: For the first time ever, @Tesla has overtaken BMW to claim the title of the top luxury car brand in the US for 2022.

This marks the first time a US automaker has held this title in 28 years. Tesla sold 158,612 more cars in the US than BMW.

Making the accomplishment even more impressive is that Tesla increased their sales 56% while overall sales in the US luxury segment dropped by 8%. Tesla sold more cars in the luxury segment in the US than Mercedes and Audi combined.
"Not only do luxury buyers want EVs, but the one that only sells EV is now the sales leader" Jominy told Auto News. Tesla's sales sweep sends a message to the industry: "If you want to be at the top of the luxury segment, you've got to beat Tesla, & you've got to do it with EVs" Image

BREAKING: @Tesla China VP, Tao Lin, says that Tesla lowering prices recently reflects their estimated future costs.

"The biggest difference between 2023 & last year is that the epidemic has basically passed. We believe that the supply chain has returned to a large extent..

...and there will be no unpredictable shortage of such materials as in previous years, which will bring uncertainty in cost."

She went on to say: "Personally, I think the price adjustment reflects in a sense our better plan for the supply chain. What level of vehicle cost will be, and then we will make such adjustments according to this estimate.
