A few #Sisonke study updates. There are three pre-print publications out now, for those interested: 1. Effectiveness data on the single dose JnJ Ad26.COV2.S vaccine 2. Safety of the JnJ vaccine and 3. Breakthrough infections during Omicron wave @CAPRISAOfficial@MRCza@HealthZA
1. Effectiveness: VE to prevent deaths 83%, ITU admissions 75% and hospitalisations 67%. VE maintained for older HCWs, those with comorbidities or living with HIV, through beta and delta waves papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cf…
2. Safety: Generally safe. 2.2% of 477234 Sisonke participants reported AEs vast majority mild (commonest headaches & body aches & fever). Few serious AEs (N=139), but below expected population rates. Two cases of TTS and recovering. medrxiv.org/content/10.110…
3. BTIs during Omicron: daily BTIs up 3* during omicron surge compared to delta surge. However, early decoupling of hospitalisations from cases. Of those hospitalised less needed O2 or high care and median days in hospital reduced from 5-6 days to 3 days. medrxiv.org/content/10.110…
