This is definitely a "please bother reading it before screaming at me" column, and I know that plea will definitely be heeded!
Various opponents of lockdown have responded to my article by claiming I've said nothing about how ordinary people were criminalised during COVID.
I mean, it's just not true? I've consistently spoken out about those abuses. Here's me a year ago:

There were those of us who supported lockdowns as a necessary evil - but still an evil! - to stop the NHS being overwhelmed, while demanding other measures, like hiked statutory sick pay and ventilated workplaces.
We also think mass vaccination creates a new reality.

The focus now should be on measures - like hiked statutory sick pay and a mass ventilation programme for schools and workplaces - that, combined with mass vaccination, *reduce* the need for any restrictions.
That's not u-turning, it's just adjusting to changed circumstances!
