There is a daft idea going around beloved of antisemites that Israel is an Apartheid State.

Let’s look at this on a factual basis.

Here you have a beach in Apartheid South Africa. These signs are typical.

Apartheid separated people by race.
Thread👇🏼1/14
Of course this doesn’t happen in israel because it’s not an Apartheid State. Nobody bans Arabs from the beach, they’re citizens.

Israel is quite content even to have burkini clad women on the beaches.

These are normal Israeli scenes. 2/14
Let’s look elsewhere. Perhaps there are limits or quotas on who is able to be a doctor, who can treat whom, if Israel really is an apartheid state. That’s what Russia did to Jews. What Iran does.
Quotas.
Here in South Africa there were Black only clinics and hospitals. 3/14
In Israel Arabs are (compared w their population) better represented than Jews in the medical professions.

It’s not only unrestricted but Arabs thrive in Israel.

That’s cos Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East.

Jews & Arabs together.

What about the parks? The toilets?
We all know about the Apartheid benches like this one in South Africa.
We all know about the whites only toilets.
5/14
Nope, no such thing in Israel. You can roam the whole country and not find a single “Jews only” sign as this never happens.

Jews sit with Arabs and nobody bats an eyelid.

The apartheid slur is just outrageous.
6/14
Lifts in South Africa, even shops were segregated.

Look at the sign assuming black people were “tradesmen” and could jostle with the dogs.

Roam the length snd breadth of israel, there is not a single sign like this.
7/14
Jews and Muslims share the streets of Israeli cities.

Of course there’s tension. There are attacks on Muslims - hate exist everywhere.

Of course there’s injustice - Israel is not perfection. Criticize the real bad!

But we’re talking Apartheid.
None exists in Israel.
8/14
There is no Apartheid in Israel. This is simply a lie.

Nothing like these South African Apartheid signs, nor a legalised government separation is present.

All Israeli citizens are equal. Better still…
9/14
Arabs participate in the Israeli army and police, where they command Jews

This could never happen under Apartheid.simply unthinkable!

10/14

bbc.co.uk/news/world-mid…
Arabs are on the Israeli courts at every level, a Christian Arab judge even sent the former President of Israel to jail for sexual assault.

This is the opposite of Apartheid.
11/14
jpost.com/national-news/…
Arabs are celebrated in Israel.

So much so today that the Government of Israel includes the Ra’am Arab Muslim party who participate as Ministers of the State of Israel - equal citizens.

An apartheid state where the oppressed minority rule?
🤪😳🙄🤔

The next time some illiberal ignorant extremist starts with “Israeli Apartheid”, let them parse this:
What do you want call someone who claims a democracy is a dictatorship?
That a free society is restrictive?
That liberation is oppressive?
That inclusivity is exclusive?

Although israel is not perfect, it is the best country to be an in a minority in the Middle East.

1000 times so if you are female, gay, Christian Druze or Baha’i.

Israel is not unlike Italy in its approach to civil rights.

Italy Apartheid Week anyone?

Thread 👇🏼🧵🪡
You’ll often see people using posters or maps from the past to prove their side is correct in the Israel/Palestine dispute. This has become more viscous and dishonest with the October pogrom of 2023 and the subsequent war.

This thread is about most of the posters you’ll see commonly used in the cause of proving that Palestine was an actual country rather than a province of the Ottoman Empire taken over from the British and eventually liberated by the Jews as Israel.

Bookmark this page if you think you might need to use it to refute nonsense posts.

This poster is gorgeous. A classic from the  1930s, it clearly was printed by the Mandate tourist office.

The printer, listed on the side, is Jewish. These posters are the product of Jewish, mostly German artists (as were their correlatives in Britain were in that era). This one is often re-printed using the term “reclaimed” (second poster) - that’s the activists erasing the Jewish origins of the poster. Classic re-badging. (See the one on the right, graffiti on the walls).

1/6Image

In fact, you can see these two posters are in the same style.
It is undoubtedly the same artist. The same designer.
These posters were put out by the Jewish Agency, the representative body of Jews in the Mandate before it became Israel. The legend at the top tells us this clearly.

Activist antizionists will often cut the legend off or remove it.

These three look like the work of another artist.

It seems the first has had its provenance cut off as has the third.

The second one is clearly aimed at Jews. It is clearly by Jews for Jews, while the others are more universal.

Let’s examine what’s wrong with this which @RachelMoiselle has tweeted about today.

The book deals with history.

If you were a historian you would want the illustrations to match the material. Thus is not so here.
1/4 Image
It’s worse than the original complaint suggests.

Auschwitz notorious train ramp gate wasn’t there 1933-39 (subtle hint, the war ran from 1933-45 and Auschwitz is in Poland.

This is a misrepresentation and a confusion - a perversion - of history.

Here’s a map of the camps
2/4 Image
That ramp and the gate were built years later (1945), to accommodate the huge death factory and get it working at full tilt, 6,000 Jews a day.

It had nothing to do either with the period or the POW camp which was where some British soldiers were.

Much confusion about belief and ethnicity.

Let me clarify for those unfamiliar with our religions.

A person becomes a Muslim by making a statement of faith, the Shahada. They state there is no other god than Allah and that Mohammed is his prophet, before two witnesses.

1/10
If a person becomes an atheist (secular), in sharia they are liable for death. There’s only one way out of Islam.

The issue is belief. Saying you’re a secular Muslim is a peculiarly Western phenomenon.

In 13 Muslim countries you would be dead.

2/10

theatlantic.com/international/…
Being Muslim is being part of the “ummah” or nation, - a concept derived from the idea of Jewish ethnicity - but it’s all belief based as above. Those Muslims who don’t believe are made not to exist, in Islamic law.

Muslim Ethnicity doesn’t exist. Belief is all.

Beware messianic 🐂 💩when you buy a tallis.

There are plenty of great talleisim online - Gabrielli, weavers in Israel make exquisite talleisim

If you see a cheap beautiful tallis it may well be more than you bargained for:

The bag is weird: it has the Messianic symbol. 1/5

But look at what the tallis is like.

At first sight it looks like the Radzyner Rebbe’s blue but…

There are “messianic” quotations on the corners, and that frayed tassel is a give away it’s not real.

Also the tassel is made of cotton, not wool as it should be…

Then there’s the “atarah” that you wear around your neck, that thanks God for giving us Y*shua (J*sus) to fulfil his law.

No. This is so not Jewish, it’s so messianic Christian.

Most Jews are horrified they’ve been tricked into wearing this.

Imagine…

You live in a land that is at the crossroads of Empires.

You started off as a group of nomads, and developed into a nations.

You built a civilization & a small empire.

You had an idea that freaked people out: God is one, beyond limits.

britannica.com/topic/Israel-O…
Eventually the large occupying power burnt your capital, took your people away into exile. Shortly before this disaster you started pointing your hearts to the holiest city in prayer: though it was too far to go to your temple, it was that direction.

timesofisrael.com/ancient-herita…
Living in exile was wearing yet you did not give up hope.

After 70 years of distressed diaspora, your people regained autonomy, in their ancient homeland. The temple was rebuilt, but the prayer houses remained pointing towards it.

It was a rebirth.
