Who is Rebecca and how did she get her own purple in the CSS spec??
The answer:
RebeccaPurple is named for Rebecca Meyer, daughter of CSS pioneer Eric Meyer, who passed away on her 6th birthday. In an outpouring of support, colleagues created a hashtag using the hex value of her favorite color - purple - to honor her memory: #663399Becca
BeccaPurple was then proposed as an official addition to the CSS spec as an alias for #663399. It was renamed to RebeccaPurple at Eric's request and shortly after, officially approved, thus enshrining her memory in code forever.
On the rename from Becca to Rebecca, Eric is quoted:
“Rebecca informed us that she was about to be a big girl of six years old, and Becca was a baby name. Once she turned six, she wanted everyone (not just me) to call her Rebecca, not Becca.”
And so we do.💜💜💜💜💜💜
