1οΈβ£ A week has already passed, that site is still not online so what's happening?
They won't know unless you tell them.
Is this your first gig and you're afraid to host a half-baked product?
Making some final adjustments?
Send them some screenshots!
2οΈβ£ Are there any blockers?
Your client may not be tech-savvy so diving into the details might not be as effective as telling with simple words what's the problem.
You're not reporting to a senior engineer anymore but to a person who wants to get things done for their money.
3οΈβ£ Slack, Zoom, Email, Discord
there are plenty of channels to communicate. There are no excuses to not give daily or weekly updates.
But don't think of these as daily standups, remember that you aren't reporting to your superior but to your client. What's the difference:
4οΈβ£ Avoid tech jargon unless they understand it.
Focus on what the client is going to get instead of what your problems are:
Instead of:
We need to buy a certificate so I can configure HTTPS
tell this:
We need a certificate so your visitors can connect to your site securely.
5οΈβ£ If they succeed you succeed
Understand what's the business is about and try to make it better if you can.
ie. Maybe they have outdated login practices, suggest using & implementing OAuth.
Maybe they are on an old version of WordPress with security leaks, suggest an upgrade
