In the week since fmr PM Netanyahu released this video, he's been endlessly lambasted because he & his party have previously condemned us & other anti-occupation orgs' public criticism of the Israeli govt in English. Now he's doing the same: "Netanyahu's joining BtS!", they say.
For many Israelis, the idea of us "hanging out the dirty laundry for everyone to see"—criticizing our govt on the intl stage—is unacceptable. We'll get to that in a minute.
But first: let's talk about the absurdity of Netanyahu's video, and why he's nothing like us.
Netanyahu was ousted from office in June, and to say he's still bitter about it would be an understatement. But there's something particularly ironic about this video: warning us that the current govt will "pass a law that allows a policeman to enter your house w/o a warrant!"
We may have taken this warning a little more seriously if this wasn't *exactly* what Netanyahu's govt, and previous govts, sent thousands of soldiers incl. us to do in Palestinian homes, night after night. Last year we released an extensive report about it:life-exposed.com/eng/
"When you conduct a search in a Palestinian's home—it's not that you need a court order… In Hebron, if you're a Palestinian, I'll enter your house whenever I feel like it… I'll turn your house upside down if I want to."—Ltn, 932nd Battalion, Hebron, 2014 breakingthesilence.org.il/testimonies/da…
"There’s also this thing where you can in any situation – in the middle of an arrest, in the middle of a call-up, in the middle of a patrol – go into any house & tell him (the resident), I have to climb on your roof."—1st Sgt, 50th Battalion, Hebron, 2020 breakingthesilence.org.il/testimonies/da…
Netanyahu goes crying to the world about how this represents the "burial" of democracy, while being himself, for 15 of the past 54 years, the man who presided over a military dictatorship that governs the lives (& at times, the deaths) of millions of Palestinians. Utter hypocrisy
When Netanyahu talks about democracy, he's talking about democracy for Israelis. Like almost every mainstream politician here for decades now, he completely ignores the fact that we're the ones denying the Palestinians the same democratic freedoms we ourselves take for granted.
And back to the question of speaking abroad: yes, we speak abroad. We'll speak in Hebrew, in English, and in any other language we want, about the occupation. Because the occupation is not only the subject of an internal Israeli debate.
The right don't really have a problem speaking abroad. Just losing an election is apparently enough for them to go complaining about it to the world. Not to mention the consistent lobbying efforts abroad by the pro-occupation camp for years now.
For the Israeli right, the real question is *who* gets to speak abroad. If you're there to push for further occupation and annexation—no problem at all. But if you dare criticize the occupation—how dare you?! theintercept.com/2019/03/03/bre…
And Palestinians don't even get to make their voice heard in Israel, let alone abroad.
If there's something Netanyahu doesn't like in Israel, he can vote against it, he can protest against it, he can run for election to change it. Palestinians have none of those rights.
We'll continue talking about the occupation and what our government sent us to do, on every platform and in whichever language is necessary, until everyone on this planet who is either active or complicit in perpetuating the occupation—whether in Israel or abroad—knows the truth.

The Israeli Twittersphere is raging over Internal Security Minister Omer Bar-Lev's meeting with Victoria Nuland, the US under-secretary of state for political affairs, after he tweeted that she'd brought up the subject of settler violence in their discussion.
Israelis from the political center/right, incl PM Bennett, are incensed by the mere recognition of settler violence, let alone calling it a problem. These Twitter warriors seem to have missed the *constant* settler attacks on Palestinians for years now.
Of course the under Sec of State brought up the issue. She understands that settler violence is a real threat & needs to be taken seriously. Bar-Lev represents a govt that not only lets it happen—it sends soldiers who protect & enable the violent settlers. (Photo—Ahmad Al-Bazz)
Settler Violence has always been an integral part of the occupation, but has seen a drastic spike in recent months. We’re at the Knesset (parliament) today to demand it be dealt with.

Major trigger warning. Especially for parents.
This @btselem video of Palestinian children being photographed in the dead of night after being pulled from their beds is currently making waves in Israel. haaretz.com/israel-news/is… Watched it? Here's a thread>>>
As bad as storming a house & forcing children out of their beds in the dead of night to take pictures is (and it is bad), it's unfortunately nothing new as far as the occupation is concerned. We've been doing it for years.
Like in this video from 2016:
"He put them up against the wall and photographed them with his smartphone. They simply told all the kids: assemble here by the wall [..] At the same time, I see that they’re starting to take photos of the kids with the phone." - 1st Sgt, Hebron, 2016 breakingthesilence.org.il/testimonies/da…
Today's @washingtonpost exposé on Israel's mass surveillance of Palestinians was brought to light by soldiers who chose to break their silence because they felt that what they participated in was, in the words of one of them, “a total violation of privacy of an entire people.”
We've been documenting that reality for 17 years now through the testimonies of soldiers who served there.
But today's revelations are extraordinary nonetheless. They prove the extent to which Israel sees Palestinians as undeserving of privacy, a basic right that Israelis cherish
"I can either scan the person’s face or the barcode that’s on the on the mumarnat (a card containing a Palestinian civilian's biometric information). And on this basis I can just retrieve information in a very very easy way." Ltn, Civil Administration, 2021 breakingthesilence.org.il/testimonies/da…
BREAKING: @washingtonpost investigation reveals IDF rollout of "Blue Wolf" — highly invasive surveillance technology to record the personal data and keep track of Palestinians living in the West Bank.
This invasion of privacy is on a whole new level. washingtonpost.com/world/middle_e…
According to testimonies given by soldiers to Breaking the Silence, IDF units in the West Bank were *incentivized to compete against each other* to photograph and collect the data of as many Palestinians as possible.
In the densely populated Palestinian city of Hebron, the IDF uses 'Hebron Smart City': smart CCTV cameras, radar, movement sensors and other hi-tech equipment to identify and track the Palestinian residents' every movement, throughout the city, in real time.
Israel's Defense Minister designated 6 longstanding, well-respected Palestinian HR orgs as terrorist groups. You'd expect there'd be some due process before an announcement of this sort,or a minimal amount of evidence.
But when it comes to Palestinians, there's apparently no need
And we're not talking about accusations against one or two individuals. Six major organizations, all of whose employees & supporters have been turned overnight into "terrorists", after a decision came into effect w/out even a semblance of a legal process having been carried out.
But that's hardly surprising when the bread & butter of the occupation's legal system is based on arrests w/out warrants and detention w/out trial. Palestinians are seen as ticking bombs from the moment they're born. We're told that due process is a privilege we have no time for.
