To overcome capitalism and individualism, I believe we must cultivate belonging and a refusal to abandon one another. In that spirit, this Christmas, I'll be supporting groups that work with and in defense of incarcerated people. If you can and would like to, please join me. 🧵
I'll also be supporting some formerly incarcerated survivors and their families, as these folks have to fight harder than anyone to catch a break and survive compounding violence. With their permission I am sharing their info in case anyone else wants to brighten their holidays.
The @survivepunishNY Mutual Aid Working Group supports incarcerated survivors of gender-based violence through sustained commissary support, care packages, visitation and communication. These organizers are MVPs. survivedandpunishedny.org/mutual-aid/
.@LoveProtectOrg provides court support, commissary funds and post release support to incarcerated survivors, in addition to doing political education, defense committee work, and other forms of mutual aid & protest. I love these folks so completely. donorbox.org/embed/love-pro…
When you donate to @C_Resistance, your donations help sustain organizing to stop prison construction, mobilize communities impacted by the violence of policing, and to develop alternatives to punishment and repression. Let's invest in that. criticalresistance.org/donate/ways-to…
.@KyPeterson5 offers us important insights on the experience, struggle and erasure of Black trans men. Ky was previously incarcerated due to an act of self defense. He could use some financial help this Christmas. Venmo: Kenyota-Petersom Cash App: $KenyotaPeterson97
Some of you know @bresha_meadows. She was imprisoned for an act of self defense at the age of 14. A movement won her freedom and now she's a young activist. She is spending her first Christmas in Chicago hiding out from omicron and could use some takeout. paypal.com/paypalme/issab…
.@CosbyMoni is a powerhouse formerly incarcerated organizer from whom I have learned so much. To support her family, you can send funds to her daughter. Paypal: @nyishasimmons1 Cash App: $NyishaDianaSimmons
One great thing that happened during this shit year was the release of Alisha Walker, who spent years in prison for defending her life. Alisha is still putting her life back together and could use some love. Venmo: @SxHxCollective CashApp: $SxHxLiLi
And my gift to you all, should you choose to accept it, is a chance to revisit the words of @CosbyMoni, who I recently talked with about building a social life support system and other lessons from prison organizing. This is wisdom we need in these times. truthout.org/audio/what-wil…
.@CosbyMoni organizes with @MomsUnitedChi, and they are also sending holiday commissary funds to imprisoned moms. You can help with that here:

Biden did not deliver on student loan forgiveness, voting rights legislation or Build Back Better in 2021, but he did manage to make Rahm Emanuel, who covered up the murder of Laquan McDonald, a diplomat. Remember this when Dems blame the left for all of their failures in 2022.
And that child tax credit they've been bragging so much about? "Without renewal, an estimated 9.9 million children across the U.S. could fall back into poverty and tens of millions of other families will receive a smaller credit in 2022." cnbc.com/2021/12/15/dec…
Unbelievable unless you were relatively certain they were going to do this.

Every year I invite people who are celebrating the colonial holiday to do something in support of Native people. Between the hyper-criminalization of Water Protectors and attacks on Native families, sovereignty & voting rights, this is a crucial time for our communities. (THREAD)
This thread is a list of groups & fellow Indigenous organizers I will be supporting today & I invite you all to join me. First, the Line 3 Legal Defense Fund provides support to people facing arrest, jail time & repression bc of their opposition to Line 3. line3legalfund.com
Woodland Women is a group that offers mutual support and healing for women on my reservation. They hold community talking circles, practice mutual aid, offer free beading classes and share Menominee cultural knowledge. I love them. paypal.com/paypalme/Woodl…

Well, y'all won. I read Who's the Bad Art Friend? Yikes...
It's my day off, so I apparently had time to spend on... that. 😂
In one of my creative writing classes in college, going somewhere public, eavesdropping, making notes, and then writing a story around whatever you had jotted down was literally an assignment we were given. It's part of the craft. That may be fucked up, but it's true.

The fact that there's a feud between Chicago's mayor and top prosecutor because the mayor wants people charged for a gunfight, while the prosecutor says there's no evidence of who did want, should be national news. What the mayor is doing is horrifying.
The mayor of Chicago is demanding a charge them all and let god sort it out approach to criminal justice -- and she's doing it loudly and proudly. This is so dangerous. It should be called out. It should be opposed.
"Even First Deputy Superintendent Brendan Deenihan testified before the city council expressing concerns about the evidence. 'The cameras captured the incident, but not enough to put a gun in someone's hand & not enough to charge someone in the incident'" abc7chicago.com/chicago-shooti…

This week on Movement Memos, I talked with Breanne Palmer, from @UndocuBlack about the Biden administration's treatment of Haitian migrants, and with @KevinHerreraJD about Operation Lone Star, Gov. Abbott's terrifying state-level war on migrants in Texas. truthout.org/audio/trump-is…
Have you heard of Operation Lone Star? Basically, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is implementing his own decidedly unconstitutional version of Trumpism at the state level, and the federal government is letting it happen. Thousands of migrants have been detained. truthout.org/audio/trump-is…
By illegally detaining thousands of migrants, Abbott claims he's doing what Biden refuses to do, even as Biden himself mercilessly deports thousands of asylum seekers, without even taking the time to run COVID tests. truthout.org/audio/trump-is…
