SEFF remembers RUC Const. Michael Logue, 21, from the Waterside, L'derry, murdered 48 yrs ago, 29/12/73 when he was shot in a joint UDA/UVF operation carried out in the Glencairn District of Belfast.
Micheal had been in the RUC a mere 3 yrs & had recently become engaged.

..members & 3 UVF members were convicted of the heinous murder. Another RUC Officer was badly injured with a 3rd escaping injury.
There had been a report of a robbery at a local Supermarket store, which Micheal & 2 other officers were sent to investigate. A few mins earlier 4 ...

armed gunmen had held up the staff before escaping with a large sum of money.
The Policemen came under fire from 2 gunmen as they pulled into the supermarket car park.
It was suggested that the attack was in retaliation for the earlier death of UDA terrorist Alexander Howell ...

..attributed to the Army. The theory was that they intended to lure in the Army - not a Police patrol.
When sentencing those convicted the Judge said: “You weren’t heroes, you were behind the hedge, shoot in the back & runaway gunmen”.
Just like so many others, the terrorists' ..

..1st priority was their own safety, they rarely had the stomach for actually risking their own lives as they sought to further the claimed objectives of the organisation & movement to which they were attached.
SEFF’s thoughts & prayers are with the Logue family today & every day
