Oh, 2021, you fucker of a year. So much loss, so many things broken. Asshole.

And yet, I still had a couple of good things happen this year and it's probably better to remember that, y'know?

So, a few good things and a few hopeful things for 2022. 🧵

1/

I got to play Susan B. Anthony in a scripted podcast! Radio plays are back y'all! We just call them scripted podcasts now.

That was because @starpeaceac remembered me from @osfashland. Because OSF is always bad ass, y'all.

I also met this lovely lady @jennyturnerhall and that turned into something amazing that y'all will just have to wait for. Heh.

3/

And then, wonder of wonders, I got cast in a new play at @centerstage_md! Amazing! And it was for two weeks until COVID took out two of my castmates (they're better now) and gave my the scare of my life with a false positive. Whee!

And that's what it felt like. A roller coaster that makes you feel like you're gonna get close to "normal" and then COVID is gonna shut it down. Asshole COVID. Asshole 2021.

Then the idiots in charge of the Wisconsin legislature decided that May was a good time to try and fuck with trans kids. Fuck that. @QuinceMountain & @helen_of_boyd & some amazing people gave me a bunch of footage and we made this. #letkidsplay

June gave me the most delightful of gifts: a broken foot. But... the show in Baltimore was back on! And we were gonna do it in front of an actual audience! Heal fast, Rachel.

Healed and fully vaccinated I drove back to Baltimore in August and goddamn if we didn't put on a fucking show, y'all.

After Baltimore I got a week of needed time in NYC and I got my first audition for a Broadway show and that was all dope and good for the soul.

Came back to WI, did the amazing gig I can't talk about, and then auditioned madly and got absolutely nothing.

But... I'm mad lucky. I have an amazing wife, @helen_of_boyd, who I can't imagine anyone else to do a pandemic with and two sweet cats. And we bought our house which still blows my mind.

So there are only a few hours left to this godforsaken year and yet there are silver linings. I don't really see any point in belaboring the bad things that happened to me this year. They happened. I survived. Next!

So, 2022? I have some requests, okay?

#1 - I want to actually book a television show. I keep getting SO CLOSE and I just want to finally square this circle. I've already done a movie and spent years in the theater. I want the troika!

12/

#2 - Planting seeds: I wanna work with @JamesGunn, @jonrog1, @rianjohnson, and other assorted amazing people telling stories about people who resemble me in attitude if not physicality. A kind of punk rock, fuck you thing, but with actual heart.

13/

And finally, #3 - A stretch of time where I don't worry about things (money, politics, bad news) and I get to enjoy the beauty that still exists in this ever increasing madhouse of a world.

I hope all you get the same.
