my program at the u. of amsterdam has something of a “nazi problem” (yes, it’s esoteric studies), but when i asked the head of my department to consider screening for that kind of thing in admissions, i was told very sternly the government doesn’t allow that. this is fine though.

A little spontaneous but I’d like to share some of my own thoughts about Faustus, Prospero, and John Dee. A fable for the age of technological enchantment.

There is a clear & intentional analogue between the characters of Faustus and Prospero. Their names mean the same thing. Compare the last lines of these two soliloquies. I’ll come back to those.
