@LinusTech I really liked the series but this video has 2 fairly unforgivable mistakes in just basic research for the script. First one about anti-cheat, it's confusing but yes Linux has been supported by them for a while but not for proton. That came late last year 1/?
@LinusTech Second was the bit with the former dev of PA talking about Linux and support. This has not only be debunked, it's been debunked loads of times at this point but the FUD has kept coming back. Even /r/gamedev has had multiple other devs saying the opposite 2/?
@LinusTech On Ben's original thread though if you read the replies and Ben's later message, he actually apologized and said he didn't really work on the port first hand and didn't know about the state of Linux in general or the challenges they had for that port 3/?
@LinusTech Even worse though was and @luke_lafr mentioned in the video the sales numbers vs the actual cost of dev of the port. PA was kickstarted and Linux was a stretch goal and the 0.1% is based off Steam's numbers. 3rd party keys are always marked as Windows 4/?
@LinusTech@luke_lafr Even worse though you can't even go by the live numbers of people playing the game because a lot of Linux users couldn't play it at launch. So you have this self-fulfilling prophecy of bad dev decisions, no QA of the port and no users, what do you expect? 5/?
@LinusTech@luke_lafr The rest of the video was fine but just a basic Google search of that comment thread from Ben would have given you quite a few results debunking it including his own twitter. That kind of thing is just annoying because the platform has improved a lot since PA was released 6/?
