My god, Denzel as Macbeth is an absolute towering triumph. Stunning, brutal horror, Magnificent. Filthy air.

I’ve seen the best film of the year already, and it’s the 1st of January.
Go see it on the big screen. Every shot is a painting, expressionist angles and ultra-noir lighting.

@CatfordMews is a great cinema!
Standout performances by Corey Hawkins as Macduff, and Kathryn Hunter as the witches.
An overwhelming sense of dread and destiny pounds throughout.

Introduced the teen F1s to the Alien trilogy and here are the results:
Alien not as good as I remembered, Aliens as good as I remember it, Alien3 much better than I remember it.

Aliens wins. Better characters, pacing, structure, shocks, action. It’s a perfect organism. 10/10
Alien is amazing but shows signs of Scottitis, that is atmosphere and design over structure or script. Alien3 shows signs of Fincherism, which is a compliment, and I’d like to see him make this today. Innovative camerawork, punchy dialogue, same music as Se7en.
Sidebar: Daughter very upset that both Hick and Newt were unceremoniously dispatched in the first 3 minutes of A3.

‘Viruses mutate to become less deadly over time.’ 🤪

Was this written by a virus? Nope, just an ignorant lazy crank with a vague understanding of basic biology and the confidence of a preacher. 🧐
I suppose we shouldn’t be surprised that JP has nurdled down this particular rabbit hole. His understanding of evolution and biology is reliably poor, and teaming up with Weinstein, Shermer and other science larping grifters was inevitable. 🥩 🦞 💰
FYI fact-check: 2016, a new strain of Ebola was discovered, more virulent and more infectious than previous versions
1999: West Nile virus mutates to become more virulent.
2021: subsequent waves of Spanish flu in 1918 were found to be more infectious than earlier waves.

I tried to warn you. Many times. But no, you were bewitched by the Big Otter PR machine. They are absolute bastards and would happily chew your face off while you’re distracted by them holding hands. 💀 🦦

I even put their evil footprints on the cover. IT WAS A WARNING The Book of Humans: A Brief History of Culture, Sex, War and the Evolution of Us amazon.co.uk/dp/1780229089/…
I have little doubt that after killing this poor man, they would’ve tried to shag his rotting corpse. For up to two weeks. BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT THEY DO. 💀 🦦 🍆

Two quotes that I cannot shake right now:

“They were careless people, they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made.”
"Forget the myths the media's created about the White House. The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand."
Gatsby, and All the President's Men.

Why do this? Sure freedom of speech but why seek out a man who assaulted his pregnant wife, and has nothing but ill-informed bile to contribute to the popular discourse?
Yes, university should be a place where you are exposed to positions you disagree with, where ideas should be vigorously debated. But they should also be scholarly places, where the values of robust but respectful argument flourishes.
Liddle is a cipher, and turdy intellectual vacuum, who poisons our discourse and offers nothing but winnets. He is a bin-juice man. Whoever invited him has contempt for scholarship and students.

Ideas that I cover in depth and with references in my new book, rather than hot takes that imagine a scenario and shit the bed about it. History is always contested, and is always political.
I’ve spoken to RD on this matter and his views seemed to be much more nuanced that this tweet suggests.

Language like ‘they will come for…’ has only negative valence. History is the assessment of figures from the past, and is therefore always changing.
Personally, I think the removal of Galton and Pearson’s names from UCL is right and proper, Fisher probably but his is a more complex story. I don’t think Huxley’s removal from IC is sensible.
