#SKPoli 2021 Year in Review!

There’s no particular order, but I’ll start in January.

Here we go! (a thread)
After holding off new measures for as long as possible—in spite of urgings from the CMHO to do more, Moe was finally forced to cancel Christmas after letting things get out of control. It was too late. By early 2021 we were leading the country in case rate with deaths piling up.
Regina City Council suggested banning O&G from sponsoring municipal facilities/events, in line with their goal and messaging to reach net zero emissions by 2050. Moe, always demanding the feds to stay in their lane, jumped on Twitter to threaten funding cuts if council proceeded.
We haven’t seen land sales at the GTH for years, but the SKParty figured the pandemic was as good an excuse as any this year to defend their failed project. We haven’t had an update on how much it’s lost since June 2020 when it was sitting at $46M debt, but it hasn’t improved.
Scott Moe wasted a bunch of taxpayer money to fight a federal price on carbon. The loss was very predictable. Really, all Moe was doing was using public money to extend his social license in SK to keep whining about Trudeau. Totally worth it, right?
Moe, having just witnessed a very bad pandemic wave in Jan & Feb due to his own neglect, declares SK would ignore the federally endorsed advice of medical experts urging caution (because…Trudeau), and instead remove ALL restrictions for a “Saskatchewan Summer”.

That ended well.
After ignoring previous calls to act on a suicide crisis, and a year after Tristen Durocher walked 635km to peacefully protest gov’t inaction (Moe tried taking Durocher to court over the protest, lost the case, then threatened to appeal), Moe caved to avoid further embarrassment.
In Oct, after a restrictions-free SK summer, with the province leading the country in COVID new case and death rates, it was revealed the government had modelling as early as June predicting the exact scenario we ended up in: record hospitalization, death, and overflowing ICUs.
Despite demands to act on rising cases as fall approached, the SKParty, in typical fashion, ensured their back to school plan was lazy and inadequate, much to the dismay of parents, educators, and medical experts. School reopened, cases/deaths soared.
Merriman tries blaming SK having the lowest vaxx rates in the country on former residents being inoculated elsewhere, as though that’s something unique to our province. Then tries to spin our low rates as being pretty good compared to some completely incompetent US states.
In what came as no surprise to anyone, a SKParty MLA lied about their vaccine status.
Indigenous leaders call on Moe to make Sept 30th a stat. Of course, we all know how the SKParty feels about indigenous issues, and with an unwavering devotion to putting businesses above all else, Moe says no.
Immunocompromised MLA petitions the government to implement mandatory masks in the Leg during a pandemic, SKParty laughs at him.

Scott Moe was quick to singles# out Northern SK First Nations for the province’s dismal vaccine rates. Meanwhile, he was quite content overlooking the significantly lower rates where his voter base resides.
Against the pleas of advocates and community based organizations who actually understand poverty and homelessness, the SKParty replaced a social assistance program with a new SKParty-made program that increased homelessness and led to a tent city in Regina with winter looming.
SKParty refuses to take any proactive measures to curb the spread of COVID throughout the pandemic, leading to hundreds of preventable deaths. Then demands we applaud them for proactively wanting to spend big money to needlessly replace security at the Leg with a partisan force.
This time it’s farmers the SKParty blames for another poor financial report.

I guess it’s really inconvenient when farm insurance is used to pad the books, but farmers actually need to make claims.
Report reveals children in provincial care under the ministry of social services are being abused and neglected.
Drug related deaths hit record high. The SKParty did nothing. Many deaths were preventable.
SKParty continues to refuse implementing minimum standards for care homes, despite appalling record in private group homes.
Almost forgot this one. Scott Moe asked US states for ICU help before he asked our federal government—which had already volunteered their assistance…because, well, our premier was worried it might give Trudeau a “win”.

SKParty, putting politics before people. Always.
While indigenous people and healthcare workers have found it extremely difficult to reach Moe with valid concerns, anti-vaxxers and people who oppose practical life-saving measures in a pandemic are earning sympathy and hour-long phone calls from our premier.
Anyway, I’m sure I missed some things.

Not sure why we keep re-electing these buffoons, but here we are.
