The Matrix 4 and how it should have been…
Being a big fan of the trilogy, me and many of my family and friends were looking forward to the 4th instalment. It was not the experience we all hoped and expected. At all.
2/
After the trilogy, I had always thought of writing and sending my version to @wbpictures but I guess the ship has already sailed on that one. Nevertheless, writing helped me get closure and I hope it does the same for every fan who reads this.
3/
To enjoy this all one needs is a bit of imagination
4/
(Act – I)
1st in-movie heading, ‘The 3 stories’. They are short stories which, for the viewer, seemingly and simultaneously occurred during the timeline of the original matrix trilogy movies but from their vantage point of the below characters from the trilogy.
5/
Counsellor Hammon, Commander Jason Lock, Zee
The stories themselves are very engaging due to brilliant action and emotion (*). Each of the stories have Smith, Neo, Morpheus, Trinity, Oracle and the Architect in some form or another.
6/
The reveal that these 3 are the characters from the original trilogy is close to the end of each story. The end of each story is more or less leading towards the same scenes how the trilogy ended. The viewer feels he is going to see the same trilogy end.
7/
But all 3 have very distinct changes from the original end. In the original trilogy all 3 live, whereas in these all 3 die. Also each story has Smith and Neo doing something slightly uncharacteristic, something good by Smith and bad by Neo.
8/
Each story has Trinity, Morpheus, Oracle and Architect as companion, teacher, guide and rule-enforcer to either Neo or Smith.
9/
(Act – II)
2nd In-movie heading, ‘912345671’.
The 4th short story. Its unexpected to the viewer. It starts with Neo and smith in the crater showdown scene at the very end of the trilogy.
10/
At the end of the showdown, after an very well written conversation with themes of right and wrong, meaning of being sentient and survival between neo and smith, neo convinces Smith to give up for the greatest good i.e. survival of both species.
11/
Smith agrees to delete himself and does s for the greater good and in fact does delete himself. The scene pans out to from the matrix to the ‘real world’ and further pans out from the real world to the actual real world. A supermassive super computer. The screen goes blank.
12/
Act - III
3rd in-movie heading ‘Genesis 101’
There scene opens to a supermassive computer with innumerable screens. Focus is on a clock which says ‘730,000 days’ (this shows how long this machine has been running).
13/
Focus shifts to 3 screens and the 3 endings of the 3 short stories. All 3 have the flag, ‘simulation unsuccessful’. The focus shifts to the ending of the original matrix movie i.e the scene where Neo is taken by the machines to their world.
14/
This too has the flag, ‘simulation unsuccessful’. The focus shifts to screen with the number ‘912345671’. This is the smith deleting himself story. It has the flag, ‘Simulation successful’.
15/
Both Neo and Smith awaken in front of the supermassive computer as projections. (They are in white as a Biblical reference to angles). The supermassive machine ie the mother computer talks to them.
16/
While explaining their purpose the viewer realizes the 3 stories and the original matrix trilogy were simulations which failed. The ‘real world’ was also a program within a program for the same was part of one simulation.
17/
This was a variable necessary to see if it would work towards harmony of both the species. In the war between Humans and machines, the machines never won but both sides kept warring for a millennium.
18/
They stretched the resources of the solar system to the bare minimum in this fight till they finally decided to form a super species of 2 organisms living in coexistence. However both species were very aggressive, independent and sentient.
19/
Though many attempts were made, either of them rejected the other when they were forced to coexist. As the already limited resources reached a tipping point after which there was no come back, the last 4 members of 2 species decided to build a super computer
20/
The 4 then went into statis-sleep. The remaining members were Morpheus, trinity, oracle, architect. The computer was created only for finding a solution by which the super species could be created and the minds would not oppose each other.
21/
A perfect harmony. The mother computer after years of computations stumbled upon this solution of smith and neo, two opposing programs manifesting machine and humans. She ran them through all the variables and stress events which would make them oppose each other.
22/
In half of the simulations, the machines lost the war and in half, the humans did. In the former, smith plays the part of good and neo the bad. Trinity, Morpheus, oracle and the Architect are programs within this simulation to push neo and smith to achieve perfect harmony
23/
The mother computer explains that they have finally succeeded as this simulation is an extension of every scenario a human or a machine would do to not coexist but they would still be together. For the greater good.
24/
Smith and Neo’s programs and simulated life’s would now form the basis of the integration of the new superspecies. Neo and Smith ask the super computer, “Now what?” and she in a biblical reference says, ‘Let there be light’.
25/
The final scene pans over the 4 members in stasis-sleep awakening and smiling.

(*) I shall attempt to write the 3 stories in due course
@elonmusk the kind of fiction you like
